I'm sure its been done to death but off the back of the 'will there ever be a 300mph production car?' thread but what car currently holds the title?

Is it the Veyron, Ultima or Caparo T1. Has anything gone quicker than 2.5 secs (RS200?)? I know you have to define production car and do special versions of limited volume cars count but lets just say if there's more than 10 of them then they count!

I think the Veyron Grand Sport does 0-62 in 2.5, which is obviously faster than 0-60 in 2.5.

I think the Veyron just squeaked under the the 2.5 seconds, but not by much. And that is the fastest ?

2.5 tends to be about the limit IIRC, given the friction co-efficient of normal "rubber" and 1g "downforce" (2.74 being 1g constant acceleration). F1 cars, superbikes etc all tend to cluster around this. You need special stuff to go faster, and probably things that are not that conducive to a trip to Waitrose smile

Lick rockets and/or jet engines. hehe

I think top fuelers do it in well under a second thanks to some very sticky rubber, so it is possible for a wheel driven car.

iirc it's about half a second, passing 100 in less than a second too smile

If you speak to the owners, most cars that appear at Southend seafront at weekends are clearly the fastest!! Well in their minds at least. hehe

On a more serious note, the Radical SR8LM must be well up there with a 455bhp 'Busa derived engine.

I went out in this on Sunday - it's the fastest way I've been to 60 in a road car before!
