I am looking at buying a 2003-2004 Audi RS6 for about 15-17K. Having never owned one of these I am unsure, but tempted by the performance, equipment/extras etc for the price. Any pearls of wisdom much appreciated, especially as to maintenance cost/reliability and handling. Thanks !

One big must is checking the brakes. My mate bought one and the discs and pads were shot and I'm sure he didn't get much change out of £2500. The seals on the turbos are also prone to go and although it sounds like a simple job it turns out it's massive!!!

When i had mine only prob i had was a vacume hose under the bonnet ended up buying a few rolls myself and spent a sunday removing each one at a time cutting a new bit and replacing far far cheaper than paying a garage to track the leaking one down.

My front brakes cost £1100 thats discs and pads but again fitted myself not a problem.

Awsome car though, also watch out for suspension dont bother trying to repair just ditch it all and get some coilovers cheaper easier and far more adjustment.

Thanks guys. Sounds like I should have it checked by a specialist. Any recommendations for specialists in / around London area ?

The reports I've read from a couple of owners tend to basically say it's a 2 ton estate with supercar performance - expect supercar running costs.

Awesome cars, you just need a decent kitty set aside.

There used to be a place called fontain that sold lots of audi's but to be honest just put it in for a MOT at a main dealer this should find things plus cheaper than a full inspection.

they are very reliable just cheak the main things that you would with any car

Have a look at the RS6 threads in the Audi/VW section - their weaknesses are well covered.

My brother in laws RS6 has been plagued with suspension issues since it left the factory. I'm sure there is a fix with non OEM kit but it has never inspired confidence. That said, so long as you ignore it's random direction changes ;-) it is a fantastic way to transport a dog and some kids.
