Evening folks,

Following another suspension fault and Electrics issue on the 206 the time has come to trade her in, and as I now do about 2000 miles a month a diesel rep mobile has been decided as the order of the day. So here's the deal,

At least 2.0 diesel
No older than 5 years old (Other half refuses to go older so rules out my favoured choice of a 5 series)
A budget of 5k and no more than that (other half has put foot down)
Nothing with a Vauxhall badge

At the moment it's looking like a Ford Mondeo Ghia X 130 (6) is going to win out but would love to hear any other suggestions you may have.

Stu

Not the most exciting of drives but a Citroen C5 is a very comfortable way to do 2000 miles a month.

My Biggest worry there is the whole french thing (daft I know especially given my car history). Plus I'm not the biggest fan of it's styling, it just looks a little to jelly like for me.

Would love one but it's not big enough for my 6ft 4ness to do the long miles in comfort and on my budget looks like I'd be lucky to get an 04 plate

If it were entirely upto me it would be a E34 5 series (Only BM I actually like) but the other half is adamant that it's got to be no older than five years and worse still I'm not aloud to trade up for at least three!!!

Although I am being allowed to buy a new non boring toy at christmas so it's not all bad

Have given the 9-3 some thought, but can't see enough in it to justify it over the Mundaneo. Other than looking better it's doesn't really seem to be a "better" package if that makes sense

having just completed 1300miles with a pal in his tdci Mundaneo on a trip to the highlands i have to say that in your position i would look no further than the blue oval.

Boring, bland BUT sips the juice, comfy seats that chews the miles, has that classic diesel 7.0 to 9.5 lepton surge is not a bad steer on the twisties and is crushingly reliable...

dull but undeniable effective

oh god, please remove my PH status i just recommended a diesel mundeo
