Car Break-in - No damage
Discussion
Just thought I'd tap the wisdom / vent some spleen etc.
The other night our V70 was broken-into. No big deal, living in London these things happen.
But here is the odd parts:
1. The car was locked, deadlocked and alarmed. The car was entered and ransacked. But there is no damage to the locks, windows or anything else. It looks like someone simply unlocked it normally
2. Nothing was stolen, save for the £3.50 odd of change in the ashtray (hidden from view). Ipod / phone chargers, Oakley glasses etc. all left.
Now, on point 2 you might think they were disturbed, but BiB say this has happened to 3 other V70 owners in the area recently.
Also, how did they get into it?

Tried to start it since? I am thinking something along the lines of nicked ECU or other expensive unit. Was in the local 4x4 place the other day, apparently it's common to have the cat nicked as they don't need to be jacked up to gain access. Bast4rds will steal anything these days.....
Probably have a Volvo master key. I know many manufacturers have them, all it needs is someone to have a friend inside the company. Some manufacturers also cut keys from the VIN, I know Honda can do it.
Friend inside the company who will cut keys to VIN numbers, scope out cars, hey presto.
In this case I'm guessing someone just had a master key and is nicking small change to buy cigarettes and McDonalds.

If there had been a spate of thefts in the area, I'd say some crackhead trying door handles.
But there was a spate of thefts only in Volvo V70s. At least that's what the OP seems to get across. What are the chances of only Volvo V70 owners leaving their doors unlocked on the same night?

Multiple V70's ransacked. Probably someone with a master key. Trying their luck, although if you were just nicking small change and not the expensive stuff you'd probably lock up again and the owner may never notice the change missing!!
Or, leave it unlocked. Cue owners scratching heads, the police scratching their heads, and one very smug lowlife having a laugh at the others expense...
