What could have caused this scratch?
Discussion
It's a small but relatively blunt object that has connected multiple times with the paintwork to produce those marks. The deviation (or slight curve) of the trajectory is also very typical for a relatively high speed impact of this type. There have been several documented cases and this signature damage has even been recreated faithfully in a laboratory. Not many people realise the cause but it is faily obvious once it's been pointed out. It was Paul Daniels.
Sounds crazy, but maybe a woodpecker? They will drum on stuff that makes a nice noise at this time of year... satellite dishes, lamp-posts... maybe a car bonnet?
Lots of birds also eat dead bugs off the front of cars, and maybe the woodpecker was trying extract some more food? They drum to eat and they drum to communicate too.

Sorry, I just got a mental image of someone driving along only to be attacked by a horde of 30 vicious woodpeckers.

Any chance it could have been from a worn away handle bar from a kids bike?
