This is pretty much why Top Gear will continue to be like it is, as will Fifth Gear. Shows that are more relevant to the majority of end users just are not as interesting or watchable for the majority of people, which is why the web is a good outlet for niche programming like this.

...seen a few Teslas around London....very good acceleration but very weird with no engine noise apart from the whine.

Brilliant. Absolutely no misinformation or biasw in that video whatsoever. Aimed at retards with st like the war videos and the mobile phone comparison.Faster than an F40 (and a Porsche 911 turbo GT, whatever that is)? Pretty sure although the Tesla may hold them 0-60 the other cars have much higher top speeds which is really the definition of faster in a basic sense. Instead of producing something balanced and admitting electric cars aren't quite advanced enough yet he's spent more time trying to convince himslef there are no issues whatsoever.

Just seen more. Wish i hadn't. Referring to an evil 'They' (No referencing, complete comjecture) who scream and shout, there's only one person i see getting worked up in that video.

Sounds like a tedious programme with some good info, which I expect will conveniently neglect to point out a few inconvenient truths. Could be wrong but when it's so obviously coming from the angle it is...

How the hell they'd stretch that out to a series I don't know. Can't say I'll be rushing home to watch it, but if it's on I might give it a try.

Well done

Are you expecting a prize?

An award for the most impatient and ill informed person on the internet maybe?

I wonder where all the plastic comes from and how eventually these batteries will be disposed of.....scratchchin...not sure that that was mentioned in the spiel.

I think he doesn't want to watch Llewelyn. laugh

TBH, having seen some of RL's previous "edu-tainment" I am amazed at how short sighted his views can be. I would have expected him, as a person interested in technology, to be balanced, but seemingly he's being funded by EDF nowadays.

The facts are simple. In 2010 we are used to a car/van/bus going 3-500 miles on a tankful of fuel. Then you pull over, refuel in under 10mins and then be able to do another 3-500 miles. You can also drive (subejct to legal restrictions of course) from 5mph all the way up to 250mph. Until a fuel source (whatever that may be) that can EQUAL, and preferably BETTER that. We aren't going to change. In the same way we aren't going back to dial up. Or coal fires in your living room. Technology HAS to more onwards. Not backwards! No amount of "pseudo-green" nonsense where "celebrites" conviently forget the pollutng power station in the countryside will make people accept being inconvienced.

Isn't every car made from lots of plastic though?

Safe disposal or recycling of batteries is an issue, that's true for all our energy needs frown

I think what he's trying to do is redress the balance a bit, which is a good thing. I'd like to say I'm a petrolhead, but does that mean I can't like the sound, speed and thrill of an old steam car being thrashed? (Years ago they were the sports cars, not the petrol engined ones.) Or can I not secretly think that a gas turbine engine strapped to a bicycle isn't a good idea - must it be a petrol engine?

Personally, I love lots of things about cars: speed; freedom; the feeling of hustling a good one through corners; the way it looks... I don't have a particular love of standing on the Shell forecourt next to the green coloured pump. That's the boring bit.

Hey I like'd it. The Tesla looks fun too. Sounds like night rider! If there was a main stream produced sports car which was electric had a decent 0-60 and cost less than £15K I'd buy it.

One thing he'd didn't mention though if a petrol car conks out 20 miles a from a garage you can carry some petrol to rescue, for electric its going to need a bloody long extension lead lol.

Do you do 500miles a day every single day?

I don't i do 36 miles a day to work and back in a rattly old landrover

To go a long distance i use the other halfs big fast honda accord

Leave rattly old landrover at home and use small crappy electric car and the only thing that would effect me is i could listen to the radio on the way to work. With the side benefit of not having to go in a petrol station for 20 minutes a week.

I already plug the landrover in every night in the winter as it has a block heater so i am used to plugging a car in overnight and while it recharges i could sleep

But don't worry i hate electric cars also as clarkson told me to
