I have been offered a VERY leggy Mondeo 2002 TDCi Estate - it has done 260k! Its the sort of thing that I could use, but I'm a little worried about re-sale when I get bored of it, which I will! Its a 115bhp LX, and has a new MOT (£500 spent). It drives absolutely fine , and is in as good a condition as you would expect given the age and miles.(Its not an ex taxi!)

Whats it worth, and possibly more importantly, is it the sort of thing I might be able to move on in 6 months time - will anybody else be mad enough to buy it?

£500'ish maybe £700 would be what I'd expect to be paying on a justincaseitpops basis

Are you sure it's a TDCi not a TDDi? 115BHP is the power of the latter - much more reliable at that age and mileage. The early TDCi models that started about then are poor compared with later ones. Look for the engine type Duratorq DI is the TDDi. It is the same engine but the TDCi is common rail.

I've done 269000 in a 2004 130TDCi....

Still sweet as anything.

If your clutch pops, you're looking at £800 from an independent and reconditioned injectors are £200 each.

Almost certain its a TDCi - thats what it said on the back at least! I thought the TDCis came in 115 and 130 brake varieties, with the earlier cars being 2.0 TDDi.

Tdci comes in 115 and 130 formats. The 130 is a 6 speed g/box.

Main issue on them seems to be DMF, can be costly...

....but they have sold loads of them , so a few more of these with DMF issues than something less common and suddenly internet mechanics have them failing on every Tdci out there.....

Plenty leggy examples around, plenty taxis as well. If you can pick it up for £500, a bit of luck and you could get your money back in a year's time.

Yeah, had heard about the DMF issues, but I figure at that sort of mileage if anything was due to go wrong, then it should have happened by now!

Thanks guys.

That is true, but my TDDi was built in early 2002 and TDCi models were running in parallel at that time. If it were younger you could tell from the tail pipe count: two for a Di and one for a Ci but the replacement back-boxes are all one pipe.

Just checked the reg number on the Ford Etis site and mine comes back as a 130PS! Which is good, if surprising - like you, I had thought the 130 was only 6 speed, but it appears not. Having checked around, a 6 speed box is a good indicator of it being a 130, but not always, and not all early 5 speed TDCis will be 115, like mine.

Very confusing!
