Went down to Sandbanks today with the missus for a spot of sun, beach and countryside driving but once again I've experienced some aggressive and dangerous driving by those bloody Prius drivers.

Today we've had pulling out into gapless lines of traffic nearly causing two collisions, going warp speed down blind roads, tailgating at 90mph and generally driving like they regret ever parting money for Toyotas bunny hugging POS.

Now I know everyone picks on Audis and BMWs but what is it with this lot? Surely it can't just be me seeing this.

Apart from the fact that a lot of oldies buy toyotas, the prius has very poor rear visibility and I find that a lot of people driving them obv aren't used to that and keep trying to move over into my lane when I'm trying to pass them as they can't see me.

Today's was side-stepping the clutch to get into traffic so he could see something we couldn't smile

For every holier-than-thou yoghart-cardigan thar buys one, a rep is given one by his/her company - and hates it.

I was following a supplier-rep who was given one to a site meeting. He was obviously driving it as quick as he could and really giving it a deliberately hard time. When we got there he jumped out and really slammed the door shut and said "14mpg, good, that'll feed into their spreadsheet". I laughed and he explained he was actually trying to kill it and that every rep in their company who'd been given one was in cahoots to get the very worst possible mpg / running costs. Is it working I enquired? "Reckon so, rumour has the fleet manager now hates them as they seem to be costing him a fortune, reckons it was much cheaper when we could all chose from choice of normal cars".

So there you go, there are two very different Prius drivers who live at very different ends of the spectrum smile

When I see them doing 90 in the outside lane, I do think that it isn't really the point. Stop start city driving and congestion charge avoidance maybe, high revving engine on the motorway... err

Blimey - the only ones I ever see outside London are doing 45 in the inside lane on the M3/M25... Aggressive certainly isn't the word I'd use.

They're also by far the cheapest on company car tax too. Only 10%, compared to mostly 17% for similar sized non-hybrids. They're also crammed with toys, which you'd pay easily £30k for in a "good" car. It makes a lot of sense financially, especially if you've got a weekend toy to fund with the savings. Hence there are now a lot more knobbers driving them rather than just eco mentalists.
