Right, me and the GF have just got new jobs (well.. I passed the interview but they are now saying im in a pool of candidates and will be informed of any vacancies - OK, I thought I was applying for a job not a waiting list!!)
Anyway her jobs a cert and if mine comes through we will both be on a decent wage for our age and will have some disposable income (mines obviously getting spunked on car related things, hers on shoes, what a terrible waste)
I currently have an MG ZR 1.4. It does me and the missus for now as a stopgap, its just its not terribly reliable (part of that problem is that I never seem to have enough money at the minute to sort everything and im constantly catching up with new problems) I like the handling and the rawness of it, but we don't appreciate the chavtastic image and I want something with a bit more go. At the end of the day the ZR is a Rover with a dress on and you cant half tell sometimes.
So here comes the challenge:
I reckon we could have 6 maybe 7 k to spend including insurance (Im 23 in an average risk area, anything about group 15 and above will be stretching it I reckon!! If we sell the ZR we will probably get about 1k for it so that can go towards the budget or a holiday.
It must have 4 seats minimum ( So no MX5) as I carry passengers occasionally - i.e usually designated driver to pub. We have no kids and we are slightly less than average height so theres no requirements on vehicle dimensions or boot capacity, as long as I can get a couple of adults and/or luggage in the back that will do.
Must be reliable. I.E not one thing going after another like all of my other cars. Especially if I choose to drive spiritedly. If it does break I wouldnt like parts to be utterly ruinous on the wallet either, but then again I can do a fair bit of work myself so dont have to pay garages.
A car thats capable of 8 or less seconds to 60 will be very nice, but dont want anything that does say less than 25 mpg when taking it easy. Would prefer a petrol to a Diesel, they are better sounding, better driving and I dont do enough motorway miles to warrant a Diesel. Thats not to say a diesel cant tempt me though (cough* remap *cough) I do however want it to handle well and stick to the road like s
t to a blanket.
The newer the better, the more toys I can get with it the better, the easier it is the for the OH to drive the better, the prettier the better, although these are high on the OH's wish list, they arent compulsory. The OH has the power of veto as she will be driving it as well but she remains pretty open minded.
Thanks for any suggestions, id like to hear some outside the box ones as well. The only one I can really think of is the MINI Cooper S! Maybe an older S3 but theyre group 20 arent they? I like the MK5 Golf Gtis but they are out of our price range.
Thanks guys

seat ibiza fr facelift (mk4) had mine 3.5 years deffinatly not chav fast 7.5 to 60 (150bhp), 17 inch wheels standard, all the toys 40mpg on the motorway and handles well with the seat strut brace and a remap would be taking you through the 200 bhp barrier (never done this but reviews of a map are ace)!

If you are going for an Astra GSi, should be able to get a VXR in to budget, but both are Group 18 IIRC.
RX-8 perhaps?
If you like a bit different, Cadillac BLS 2.0T, a 9-3 without the bad reputation. Should get an 06 for that money. Came loaded with kit as it was the only way to sell them new!
Usual hot hatchary 3MPS or the like would be in budget.

Very much like the CTR but a little less... If you know what i mean? Think they're only group 14 for insurance aswell.

Same engine as the Corolla but just a bit more pretty!
A diesel 3 Series? But it could be limited use in the winter though...
