I heard once round the back of the tyre shed that this used to be a TVR meeting place!, not sure if it is true though as i was hit in the head by a can of red bull and knocked out so may have dreamt it!

It was started by PetrolTed in 1998 as an email listing for TVR S-owners, then the forums as we know it was born in August 2000 with a handful of forums. New forums were added over the months and years as demand required (and some disolved through lack of traffic). Iirc by mid 2002 PH had overtaken Scoobynet as the most visited motoring forum in the UK, with only Ebay Motors & Autotrader getting more hits as motoring sites as a whole. In January 2007 it was bought by Haymarket Media who continued what Ted had started in his spare room.

I'm sure the others could fill in the gaps.
