Hi, first post here, hope someone can help - would be much apprieciated!

I'm buying a 1997 Peugeot 106, with 10 months MOT. It's been in storage unused since and has done about 30 miles since the MOT.

Failed in February with;
Nearside Front chassis rail marked Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings (6.1.3)

Offside Front chassis rail marked Body or chassis has excessive corrosion, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings (6.1.3)

Offside Front Lower Ball joint has excessive play (2.2.B.1f)

Offside Front constant velocity joint gaiter split (2.5.C.1a)

Offside Rear at the axle Trailing arm worn and seriously weakened (2.4.G.1)

Obviously all these have been fixed - anything there I should be concerned about? Or does that fact it passed an MOT two months later meant that there shouldn't be anything too dodgy here?

The four advisories I've got with the MOT are;

Nearside Front Shock absorber has slight corrosion to the casing (2.7.2a)

Offside Front Shock absorber has slight corrosion to the casing (2.7.2a)

Brake pipes coated limiting inspection

Both rear tyres cracked not showing the cords etc

Anything here I should be cautious with?

Thanks for your time!

The rear tyres. Get them changed.

Apart from that, all should be ok till the next MOT or two.

Did you have the new MOT done, or did the previous owner?

Previous owner had MOT done. I'm looking at buying the car. I've had a good look at the car itself and seems really clean and rust free.

"Buyer beware." You are talking about trusting the seller's MOT. That's like trusting the seller's house survey.

It's hardly a rare car, if in doubt walk away.

Get underneath and make sure that structural rust was fixed properly. Just in case they bodged it, covered it in underseal and got a crooked test.

There was serious structural rust there before and now there isn't

The rusty holes might have been fixed properly...

Or it might have been filled with chicken wire and filler and blown over with a halfords rattle can... and it does happen

Ok - thanks for your help everyone, can't beleive how quick the replies have been.

Where abouts was the structural rust? And how do I go about making sure the repair is legitimate?

Thanks, and sorry if the questions seem stupid!

The world is full of 2nd hand cars. Make sure you buy a decent one. No point taking chances with a car like that unless you're able to fully assess the shortcomings.
