My brother had parked in a car park in canterbury and the ticket wasn't supposed to run out until 20:45. He got back to the car and stuck the ticket on the windscreen then went off. He got back to the car at 20 to 8 and he found a parking ticket on the windscreen and the time it got issued was 19:41. He got in and found out that the ticket had not stuck to the windscreen and had fell on the floor. The same thing has happened to a mate of his who challenged it and they let her off. Do you think he will get away with this as it is not his fault that the tickets do not stick to the windscreen properly as you can tell as it has happened to his mate?

Private car park? Or council one? If it's a council one it might be worth contesting, nothing to lose, but I bet he'll have to pay.

If it's private he can safely file the 'ticket' in the bin and pretend it never happened.

Doesn't really help your situation I'm afraid but the Skoda Octavia's come with a little clear clip to hold tickets. It's an excellent idea, why can't other manufaturers do the same to avoid problems like this?

The thing is that it is his second parking ticket and the first one it was his fault that he got it.

could he argue that the adhesive was not fit for purpose and caused the ticket to fall off?

Re clips to hold the ticket. One car park I sometimes use specifically requests that the ticket be placed in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Of course they don't say whether that is bottom left hand corner looking out from the inside of the vehicle or looking at the vehicle from the front. Volvo clip is on driver's screen pillar.

Just a matter of time before some pond life on a quota writes an invoice.

Tried contesting this before. Answer was no, still have to pay the fine.

But you can try....

Contest it. Include a copy of the ticket. Hint at incompetence by their parking wardens. Be polite and professional but firm.

Happened to me a couple of years ago. I reattached the ticket to the window just beside where they'd put the fine and took a photo of it.

Included the photo in the 'What the hell are you lot up to?' letter to the council and like magic it went away.

It doesnt matter if the adhesives are working or not, it states very clearly in the T&C that the driver MUST clearly display the paid for ticket. You can contest it, but as far as i know many of these traffic wardens now carry cameras with them and take photo's of the car in question... Seen one taking pictures of a 4x4 in a disabled space not having a disabled badge.

I once contested a fine that I’d been given when my ticket had fallen off the window into the door pocket. I included copies of the tickets with my letter and Camden Council cancelled the fine. You might actually get a human being and at the very least you’ve delayed paying the fine for a couple of weeks if you appeal.

I take pleasure in knowing that even if a fine is not dropped, you have wasted a civil servants time at at least £10 per hour.

I had this happen to me.

Contested it with the council to no avail, so took it to court and won.

If you did everything within reason to purchase and display a valid ticket, then you've complied and that's that, and the magistrates will see that.
Get them to produce CCTV footage of your mate buying the ticket and placing it in his windscreen.
They can't refuse to do get it either, unless they want to drop their case.

Just be prepared for the council to be a brickwall and for it to have to go to court.

I paid for a ticket at the weekend to leave my car overnight at a car park where some private cowboys based in Milton Keynes operate. Their tickets have no adhesive so when I placed it on my dash it blew out of sight under the black strip around the windscreen, I thought about sending a copy of the ticket to them, but I can't really be bothered.
