Well, I've recently had to start working primarily in a different place to where I was before, which has also made it FAR worse of a commute by car due to traffic.

I currently have a MK3 MR2, which I've only had for ~3 months or so ...

So, do I sell it (even though I REALLY like the car) for the 3.5-4k that it is worth, and then get a motorbike for 1.5k, and a cheaper car for 1.5k

Motorbike wise I would be after some sort of sport tourer / dual sport (TDM 850, RF600, CB600F (Hornet), any suggestions anyone?)

And car wise I'm currently stuck on what I would get frown I've owned a Civic VTI (B16a engined one), an MR2 (MK2 NA) and a Celica before ... now I don't want another EG Civic (wouldn't mind an EK, but they are overpriced imo), I don't want an MX5, and I'd prefer not to get an e36 frown
I could get another MR2, but I want something with lower insurance than the current MK3, and the MK2 would be a bit more or same) - besides I want more than 2 seats for once.
Are an e36 or an EK Civic basically my only choices if I want something slightly fun, and still reliable? frown

Alternatively, do I just keep the MK3 and bear the horrible traffic frown

Get a Pug 106 or 306? Think you could probably get a decent condition one for that price. With that price tag you'll probably be able to pick up a semi decent Eurobox (speed wise). With the civic you'll probably struggle to find a good VTI spec for that price... you will probably get a 1.4 or something for that price.

Not sure I follow?

What's wrong with the MR2?? confused You seem to hint at 4 seats, yet moan about the traffic. How is any other car going to be better in traffic? Or are yo planning on only using the bike in traffic?

Planning on commuting purely yon a bike, and using the car for when I need a car, which also means that I would prefer 4 seats to take people along (for once)

Well in that case, I think you've answered you're own question on what to do biggrin

Sell the MR2.

Can't really advise on bikes, but there are loads of nice 4 seater (even 4 door) cars for £1500-2500.

Personally I like these:

MG ZS 180 Hatchback (2003)
51,500 miles £1,600
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1797387.htm

Decent turn of speed and good reviews from people like Evo. Also fairly new and cheap and easy to run.

ROVER 200 BRM (Rare car) low miles (1999)
65,000 miles £1,500
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1755979.htm

Pretty decent hot hatch with close ratio box and a front LSD. Nice comfy interior too.

Honda Accord Type R (1999)
139,000 miles £2,000
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1620200.htm

It's a Type R, with a slippy diff and arguably better than a Civic.

Loads of other options from coupes like a Nissan 200SX or older Celica. To big saloons like a Lexus LS400 or Jaguar XJ. Disco's, Cherokees and the like for a good 4x4 if you want something contrasting to the speed of a bike.

i've just done the same thing. sold my skyline for a bike and a car.

as i've only just done my CBT, got a 125 bike, though this will be upgraded once I pass my test, however with a car you need to think what you're going to be doing with it.
In the end, I realised mpg didn't matter one bit as i'll be commuting on the bike, also I needed space in there, so a cheap, really bad on mpg 4x4 was the answer, which is currently what i'm looking for.

so basically just make sure that your car is practical and big enough, otherwise you will just end up with a saloon car that actually you can't get any more in than the mr2.

I still want something that I can have fun with on the weekend, as I'd probably not push the bike and use it for commuting only

There are a few VTIs in that price range, however I'm not sure I really wanna live with a mere EK4 frown I swore when I sold my old EG that the next Civic I ever buy would be an EK9 heh

Looks like it's down to e36, MK2 MR2, or a Del Sol since I've never owned one lol or maybe even an FTO (again since I've never owned one)

EDIT: I wouldn't mind a GTO, but I just know that maintenance is going to be a biatch with one

That's not a reason to not have something, everything has a danger associated with it

Fine, take your chances, don't come running to me (or not) when it happens.
