Right gents and gentesses.

I'm car shopping again.

9k budget. Can be anything but needs to be able to have a tow bar fitted.

Current on the list is an EVO6 GSR or TME, RB5 Scoob, Blobeye scoob STI with PPP, E39 M5.

Anyone had any experiences of the above. Will running an EVO 6 mean i have to bend over every time something goes wrong? Will a scoob blow cylinder 3 every time I start it up?

Will a BMW M5 Kill it's VANOS system when I so much as look at the engine?

Is there any other daft cars people can throw into the mix?

You could look at an older style S4. I think they sit in that budget?

VANOS in an E39 M5 is a wholly overblown issue. If the car is well cared for and the correct oils have been used for your money you will get a great car. Buy upon bills and history not on bodywork...buy a later car with over 100K miles and you will be laughing. The only car to buy from your list.

Why is it the only car to buy on the list? Is it going to be more fun to throw down a b road than an evo 6?

I have not long brought an M5 and I had a similar budget. As per my thread in the M Power section I brought mine for £6300 with 167K on the clock, massive hostory, last owner for 9yrs etc etc. It was by far the best both inside and out and that includes cars that were £8-9K

I have spent £3000 on service, clutch, brakes all round and some other bits and bobs.

It is a truly awesome car but costs £85 to fill up, loves drinking oil and I get 17mpg. You probably know all this already but if you are interested look at as many as possible (theres plenty of choice at the moment).

I had a V7 2001 STI scooby with remap, Cats removed and a few other mods pushing out about 340bhp.
I have also had an M5 recently, and believe me it is in another league to the scooby.

Only one choice, M5.

So if you had a b road and the STi or the M5, which would you chose to throw down it?

I'd get an M5. E39s are very chuckable, would be fun cross country!

R32 - golf? could need a supercharger to be in the same league as the M5 or if you mean R32 Skyline - £9k would get one with pretty low miles and a few tasty modifications eg http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1766320.htm

R33 GTR's can be had for that money. But I just assumed they were straight line rockets but that's about it?

Neither can take a towbar, so instantly out.

Er, no. Most Skylines are nice handling cars (even the 2.0 NA 4-door), the main criticism you hear of GTRs is that they're almost too good. The R32 is considered the most raw and involving of the (modern) GTRs as they added more electrickery with each new version.

Don't they?

Seems a little wierd, they are not exactlyperformance cars more fast hatches.

The Golf would make a decent towcar, 4WD + gutsy engine.

Think you will struggle to get a nice Evo6 TME for £9k and thats too much for a GSR unless its been well modded

I have a E6 and have to say whilst its a hoot and I love it it isnt a main car or daily driver I think you would need a second car.

If i had to have just one it would be the M5

I mean would something like that pave my way to financial ruin?

You would be surprised how reliable modified Nissans can be...

But still - M5 will be much better car.

Need to turn the TC off though, it cuts in far to much even in the dry
