Cars with several previous owners
Discussion
Hi all. Interested in your opinions regarding the above. Have looked at a RS4 and have decided it might be the car for me, car is mint with very low miles but has had 3 previous owners in as many years.Question would this put any of you lot off, I'm a little worried come resell time.
Depends.
I'd check out the paperwork and contact the original dealership that sold the car (they should have all records).
I've bought a few new cars pre-registered and look after them pretty well. In all cases I've sold them on after 2 years so it is possible to buy a decent car with 3 owners in as many years.

How old is the car, and how far out of Audi warranty is it? Also how spaced out are the owners? If the car is out of warranty, and the last two owners have the car for 3 months each before trying to shift it, then you'd assume it's knackered. If it's still in, just outside warranty and has been pre-registered then there is probably less to worry about.

Hmmm. No mileage recorded on MOT certificates in the first 3 years so make sure you check the mileage carefully from any service documentation and/or talk to a dealer who should be able to look up any "official" service history for you.Mileage in itself doesn't need to bother you too much but you don't want to get nailed when you try to sell on. i.e a buyer does his homework and it turns out to be a leggy one.

It wouldnt bother me so much on high end cars for some reason
Agreed, and probably extend 'high end' to include anything non-mainstream. Hasn't put me off buying fast cars - it's no surprise to me if a few people can afford to buy them but are put off keeping them for any number of reasons: servicing costs, insurance, fuel, family, etc.jomcvelia said:

....would it put me of....NO....as long as it's service record was complete.....silly question.....Think i'm the 4th or 5th owner of my Ignis... Just make sure you've checked the car thoroughly and you should be fine... Some of the owners could just be the garages used as a trade in or something similar... At least two of the previous owners of my car are garages, found out one was someone who got a job offer in a different country so had to sell and then the one i bought it off of... Amount of owners shouldn't be the thing which decides the purchase, it should be the general condition of the car and how it checks out with age and millage. I've talked to people who sell high end German sports cars, and says that many of them have actually appeared on there forcourts many times due to the owners either realising they cant afford them or have no actual real use in them and just thought it better to sell.

Think many people when buying second hand like only one owner...i know i did, but would rather have a car with 3 keeper that look after the car than one who did not.
Another question is value, does it affect a car that's had a few owners...
Marginally....Another question is value, does it affect a car that's had a few owners...
Not too much, depends on the marque i think.
