a what car / what have you got thread

simple requirements:
under £2k (preferredly under £1500).
reliable (500 miles per week)
reasonable insurance (29yo, 3yrs ncb, no accidents, 3pts in oct. 06)
has to be kept on the street.
mpg not a huge issue as I'll be claiming 40p/mile. anything interesting/absurd considered so long as big bills don't occur. depreciation at this price point is not a concern.
please shy away from left field choices. I need to exercise self control and get something sensible, else I'd end up with the hillman imp or triumph 2000 I've been looking at.
current leader is a 306 hdi d turbo. seen an 80k 3dr with fsh for £1400. I did toy with the idea of an mx5 but i'd need a hardtop and the insurance was ridiculous.
ps - the 'what have you got' means that if you're selling something that may fit the bill and aren't a million miles away then feel free to pm. I need something within the next 7 days ideally.
