Sorry to the grammar Nazi’s if flyering isn't the correct word.

But anyways. Some of you may know from the Supercars Spotted, Some Rarities thread that I’m a car photographer and take photographs of cars spotted on the street. I've recently had a thought to place a flyer on the car that I’ve taken a photo of. The flyer would consist of my Flickr account address and notify them that I’ve taken the photo and they can come and view it on the site. Two reasons for doing this. Firstly I’d assume that most owners would be happy to have had their cars photographed and view them after. Secondly it'd help promote my photography and possibly get some photo shoots from it.

So what are people’s opinions on this? Thanks smile

I would think if worded nicely it would be ok.

As long as it doesn't come across as a sell.

You could phrase it thus:- If you would rather not see your car on my website please contact me. Although that might sound a bit like a threat, now I come to think about it.

I have to say if it was just parked up on the high street I wouldn't like it too much

If it were at a 'car event' that'd be very different

Yes, i could state in the photo that if they wanted, i can either remove the photo or blur the number plates. It'd all be worded in a friendly mannor and no mention of a photoshoot etc in the flyer. Just simply a link to the website

Nothing wrong with it and good idea - just remove / blur the plates.

You'll always get one grumpy sod that makes a fuss, but if you remove it when requested then whats the problem? Taking pictures of a car as an enthusiast isn't illegal and nor is putting them online (even with number plate).

I'd be honoured if something like that landed on my window. smile

Anyone touching my car to stick sodding flyers on it will get severe tongue-lash from me. They're a frickin' nuisance and what if one claims you damaged his wiper putting your ad under it?

I dont currently blank number plates of any of the cars i've pictured on my website. Although i've had owners from time to time ask me to blur out the number plate and everytime i have. Not a problem for me at all.

And so would i. Thats the whole reasoning behind placing the flyers. To let the owner know that their car is very nice.

This is why i ask. I never touch someone else's car in anyway. I'm always very courteous around the car. So i dont know if a little piece of paper slipped under the windscreen wiper would be too much.

Which part would do? The photo being taken or the flyer being placed

That's what you've got to be careful of. Taking a photo of a car is one thing. Meddling with it (even just to lift the wiper a slight bit) is another.

Plus, how many people actually read flyers that are stuck under their wiper? I certainly don't. It goes straight in the door pocket then into the bin. Unless it has yellow and black hatchings round it, of course wink

It would be easier to advertise photo shoots on sites like this. If I wanted a photo shoot, I'd go and find one. I don't want a photo of my car parked in a parking bay anyway. Maybe asking owners at car shows would also yield more actual dosh though official pushy photographers at Disney et al are very irritating.

There is a website called platewave that has random photos uploaded by anyone by their numberplates.

not sure of the point, but my car was on there.

As I said before, I sort of agree with the principle. I think it's more along the lines of your or your car being photographed and having stuff left on it when you're just trying to get on with your life.

Plus some people are sensitive about security, potentially the car could be spotted somewhere where the owner might not want it to be seen, that sort of stuff.

As I said before, if it were at a car event it's different there's a sort of implied consent, but not on the high street or in a car park.

Personally I think both. Don't take pictures of my stuff without prior permission and don't touch my stuff either without prior permission.

Sorry but it's about respect.
