We've had the thread on free test drives and yes they are rare or only for those of a persuasive disposition.

What sort of costs are involved in paying for a car for say a long weekend?

Own insurance will cover me so need not factor that in unless it's mandatory.

What can i expect to pay for a weekend loan of something half decent? And by that i mean sub £60k and fun to drive.

Or is it cheaper to simply approach a hire company?

Are you talking about paid for test drives from official dealers?

Personally I've never heard of that before.

Only thing I can think of, from a main dealer, is Caterham. They offer weekend rental, and refund the cost if you go on to put an order in for a car. Don't really think there are 'paid for' test drives, might be wrong though. Excluding main dealers, best bet is just renting for a weekend. Loads of results on google for rental companies with interesting cars, probably looking at anything from a few hundred pounds -> £a lot for a weekend though.
