right guys,

gotta get my front brake pads sorted for the cayman, just been quoted 126 for them (OEM's).

i have also enquired about porsche genuine pads, and waiting for the price on those...
now my question is... is there much/any difference on genuine and OEM's on a car such as this? or am i paying for the name?

also on a seperate note, i was also told the front discs need doing..now i push the car quite hard, but i slow down earlyish and rarely stamd on the brakes.

the cars done 18k...what do you guys think?

taaaaaa

I think you need to look up what OEM means.

Porsche don't make brakepads. They put Pagid/Textar/Ferodo/Brembo pads in to a box and double the price.

Yes, I needed a suspension part for my e46 M3. Stealer said if you buy non genuine you have to replace a pair so its not cost effective. It was £350.
My garage said, bks and got one from motor factor, top branded and guess what.... Even had the BMW logo on that had been partially ground off! Saved about £100.

That`s right, although the porsche pads do have the crest on. I had a few sets for my mk2, both porsche and textar, compared them, everything on the pad is the same, compound, numbers, the lot. Only difference was the PD on the porsche pads! Oh yeah... and the price...!!!

Not just them, all manufacturers are the same. Vauxhall sell Textar/Pagid/Mintex/APEC pads at double the price as well, as do Ford, VW...

+1 ...... hence why you use places like GSF & Eurocarparts...... Real parts in the makers boxes rather than in the manufacturers boxes....

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacture

In this case OEM means the original Porsche pads probably made by one of the brands mentioned above.

You have to be careful with buying brake parts. Many are OEM which means Origanal Equipment Maker, but not necessarliy for that car. All pads should be to the OE spec but that does mean there is room for wiggle.
Anything that comes in a plain white box is usually not OEM or OE spec. Anything from Apec, TRW, Ferodo,Mintex, Bendix, will be up to spec others can be iffy.

I work in the parts industry and I fitted some pads from a respected supplier for my motor home, not ones we stock or listed above, they are truely awful, they squeal but worse they do not stop like the previous ones and will be getting changed.

You get a lot of "keyboard experts" but say a set of pads is £100 from the dealers, OEM in the aftermarket will probably be £50-60. If you get some that are £20 how do you think they make them cheaper?
