Hi, story so far

Have a bought a Toyota Carina E 1995 1.8 161,000 miles for £200 to compete in the Crumball Rally.

Car was stood for 4 months whilst we made some repairs, changed oil and all fluids.

Took car for MOT and failed on emmissions with some 10 times the passing value!

Was recommended to change cat and lambda sensor, did and took back for retest.

Emmissions still twice the limit to pass. Garage have recommended getting some engine cleaner from Halfrauds and take the car for a long burn down the motorway and hopefully should lubricate the engine.

Can anyone recommend any engine cleaner? Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Forte engine flushes come recommended.

Personally I would make sure it has fresh fuel, stick a pint of diesel in the engine, warm it up and drive down the motorway for 20-30 miles in 3rd gear. Change the oil and fingers crossed, it's always worked for me.

Give it a good blast to get everything heated up, should do the trick. Engine cleaner isn't worth the bother really.

Italian tune... good blast with some maintained high revs once engine up to temp might help.

Which emissions was it failing on?

you say it failed but can you provide the readouts? Was it Lambda it failed on or was it nox or hc? Carina E is a leancruise engine and when running lean it can increase other readings

so what exactly were the levels?
