M6 Toll - worth it on a Sunday?
Discussion
Hi
I rarely (never) travel up the west side of the country
However either tomorrow or next weekend I have to travel from Warwick to Preston and Im not sure whats the best option
Paying for anything when theres a free alternative grates on me however I have no idea what the motorway system around Birmingham will be like early on a Sunday afternoon
So M6 toll - yay or nay??
Cheers
Always worth it. The surface going the star city way is shockingly s
t, and the ridge/join every 25 yards or so is annoying, to me at least.
Pour moi, it is still worth it on a weekend to avoid the higher percentage of s
t drives that are on the roads at the weekend. Despite there being less cars, I reckon motorways are more dangerous on sat and sun, and would gladly pay to avoid other drivers for at least part of the route. I don't drive that part of the 6 often on a weekend though.

For the full effect, have your Ford Popular simultaneously spin a bearing, overheat and melt a piston the second the speedo reaches 59mph.
Then stop and have a family picnic on the hard shoulder while dozens of people gather on the footbridges to watch.

Frankly considering that most of the M6 between Birmingham and Preston is filled with roadworks I don't think you should waste your money trying to save a few minutes using the toll road.
And this isn't a wind-up. About every 15 miles between those two points there's another set of roadworks - for well over 100 miles. I spent 5 hours getting from Coventry to the Lake District a week ago, and most of it was spent sitting in coned off sections of roadworks with (usually) zero f
kers working on any of it.
Take a flash and a book to read. That's my advice.

First time I got my RX8 to VMAX was on this piece of track around my way called the M6 to-rack162mph on the speedo, 156 on satnav. One rotary engine revving its' nuts off. Perfectly empty, smooth piece of road. Love it.

Back on topic, the toll is always worth it.

Too true, I was doing 70 on it last year and I was the slowest vehicle out there. I swear at one point a milk float went past me!! ha haLuckily I'd pulled into the services, I'd been hammering it up until that point but couldn't wait until Hilton Staffs services for the loo!
