I've been offered the car today, not sure if this is good value or not but it's only done about 45k and seems in good nick so the price seems ok. I remember a bit of excitement when it came out but have not seen or heard much since.

Are they any good? Is it likely to keep me interested for more than a week or two?

Also - does anyone know of any that have been used as track fodder? Are they any use for that?

Why is it so cheap? It's a later average mileage ST220, its worth more than £5k.

I'm in Dubai - Mondeos have zero reputation here.

IIRC NEW they were £14K in Dubai!! An 05 goes for around £6-£6.5K here but cost £19K+ new.

Not sure how you could check, I was talking to a guy who was out there working for BAE when i got mine, i can certainly remember it was VERY CHEAP.

Do it.
However as track fodder I recall reading the V6 had a serious tendancy to starve one bank of cylinders of oil thus reaking havoc, under constant hard track cornering. Solution is a baffled sump. No idea if it affects the ST220 version of the V6 as well.

Baffled sump was introduced to all versions ages ago, the real cause of the thrown rods is not oil starvation.

It's also got Facelift heater controls, which came in very late 2004/early 2005. Which is a bit odd.

Appears to be a facelift... but then it is possible to replace the dash.

They're not chucks - the lacquer goes like that.

EDIT - oh wait, spotted the chunk you mean!

That's the bottom end of the market in my area at least. 6k will get you into a 03 car but not an 05 one unless you don't mind high milage.

New dash was with the MMT6 box, checks out OK of Ford ETIS.
