I have a renault clio sport 172, it is used maybe once a week for half hour at the most to nip to the shops, However I hasve decided to make a trip to southampton from nottingham yesterday. After around half a hour of driving a warning light came on dashboard. on the right hand side, it looks like a valve? sort of a square but with one side lower than the other with a "T" on to and one on the left of the shape, if I was guessing which I am at the min I would think a gear box? the light is orange at the momment and the car seems to be ok, well it got me to southampton, but i'm worried it will not get me back! I know there are some very very helpfull people on here so thank you massivly in advance.
I don't have the manual with me so I can't check that and nothing comes up on google!

Sorry, can't help, but if I were a betting man I'd put plenty on it being the switch or warning light/sensor itself rather than any real issue.

Please do not read the above as advice.

Assuming you have AA / RAC etc, the drivers will have a fault reader and will tell you whats wrong / advise on whether it is safe to continue.

If not.. you're doomed!!

Some local mechanics only charge £30 or so for the code read.

Alternatively, do what I did and just buy one off ebay - it paid for itself after 1 ECU light!

Ebay ELM327. I think I paid less than £20 for mine delivered with software.

Obvious answer is a dealership...personally I'd invest in a fault code reader (if you are very lucky you might be able to read the code without any special equipment), your car will be ODBII compliant so shouldn't be too expensive, then you just need to get hold of a list of the errors and what they mean. You'll need to know what type/make of ECU is fitted to your car, a specialist reanult forum should be able to help.

Once you know why the code has come up, i.e. what's at fault you can replace the relevant sensor or part and you are good to go. Probably just a crank or lambda sensor.

Your car, like most normal people, dislikes Southampton....

When you leave, the light will turn off.
