So... I've got a BBQ with a 20kg propane bottle. I'm taking the BBQ somewhere, so have lashed it onto the car trailer I have. Am I allowed to transport a gas bottle in the same way, e.g. lashed to the trailer?

Yes. They are tough as old boots- you could drag it there without doing much damage. Our gas delivery chap used to just throw them off the lorry onto the concrete floor.

Cool, thanks. I would imagine the damage would be done not from one of them explosively decompressing but if they came loose and flew into the windscreen of an oncoming car.

The old bill won't pull me over for transporting on a trailer though?

They will if it's not tied down well enough to stop it flying through another cars windscreen.

The only legal issue I can think of is that if it where inside the vehicle you would need to display a compressed gas sticker. As it's on a trailer and plain to see that won't be a problem.

They can be tricky to strap down as the try to roll all over the place. Chock it in place with some wooden wedges if need be.

Roofers and the like seem to manage OK for their tar boilers.
