Car idea?

In September I am starting a course at the University of Sheffield and will be making a 400 mile round-trip every week to attend the course from where I live in Farnham, Surrey.

Currently I have a 2001 Toyota MR2 convertable with about 100k on the clock and am looking at changing it to something that will cruise the motorway miles a bit better.

I am loooking to part-exchange the MR2 and have a budget of about 4-5grand – insurance is not an issue. I would like something interesting but economical was thinking maybe a Audi A4 2.5 tdi, Merc C220 Cdi sport?!? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

I'd say keep the MR2, I seriously can't believe it's that bad on the motorway.
