I don't often post these types of threads as if you wrote down every single piece of bad driving on a forum you would never leave the house.

However, sometime something so monumentally stupid comes along that is deserves (IMHO) a thread. Do feel free to post as many "Cool Story Bro" pics as you want if you disagree, however! biggrin

I was driving home just now, coming down a long single carriageway road with a 40 limit reduced to 30 for the last hundred yards or so due to a 4 way roundabout. I was going straight over the roundabout as do most people. It's hard to straightline as the inner area of the roundabout has been paved for some reason. Anyway, as I approached I could see all exits were clear except for the one to my right left, where a woman in a white car was waiting. I covered the brakes as one does.

As I closed on the roundabout, changing down and engine braking to reduce speed, she began to pull out. Having expected this, I braked - not hard as I'd allowed myself enough space, so I would easily be able to stop or slot in behind her depending on what she did.

What she did was stand her car on its nose about 6 feet over the line when she realised there was a car bearing down on her.

Up to this point, no problem, the sort of thing we all see every day and I didn't bear her any particular malice, I was just pitying her poor observational skills wink

She then beeped her horn at me.

This got me thinking. What part of her brain thought that anything in this situation was my fault? I was *well* within the speed limit, I certainly wasn't hooning, I wasn't revving the engine, beeping the horn, hard on the brakes, squealing the tyres, pushing the car. I had been within her view for a good 10-20 seconds. Yet she pulled out in front of me - presumably having misjudged my speed. And so to "teach me a lesson" she beeped at me. Yes, that will teach me. Unfortunately, I wish somebody would teach her frown

Utterly mystifying.

I suppose she's on handbag.com moaning about some bloke minding his own business on a roundabout who got in her way, although I still can't see how she'd spin it so it was my fault...

I'd imagine she feared from your approach speed that you weren't going to stop.

I think there's a part of the brain that says ''uh oh, my peers may be watching and I don't want to appear stupid. Quick press the horn to pass the blame and pretend they were in the wrong! Others around me will look at the other person and think 'what a cock!''

Hello Von.

I thought I'd made it clear from my post that I was doing an entirely sensible speed? Well within the limit, not pushing it at all. I have had a very long day at work and I was gently cruising home. I know how these things come across on here sometimes but I was genuinely on a gentle potter home. More likely poor speed judgement / awareness from her.

I am sure that you are right - she feared I wasn't going to stop. But she had put herself in that situation in error and only had herself to blame. Beeping her horn at me was a pretty dumb thing to do (and I doubt she was "alerting me to her presence"! laugh)

like the OP, I see stuff like this almost daily on our roads....

last one that springs to mind is also a big roundabout story, this paticular one has 4 exits/entries, all multi-lane, with basically 4 marked lanes round.

now, as they go, this one is quite well marked, with decent viability etc etc...

picture this, I am entering said roundabout from lane 2 (of 4) and heading straight over it, left of me lane 1 is marked to turn left, lane 2 either left or straight, lane 3 straight or right and lane 4 turn right.

I just get to the point of exiting when a panda car (that had been behind me in lane 1) then attempts to turn right infront of me! no warning, indicators, light, nothing.

anyway, without either driving over him (I'm in a pickup), I had to stop, (as did he has he had now nowhere to go except either into me or the railings).

I then look down at me and gesture 'what??' at which point he meekly backed up looking somewhat sheepish.

I would like to say it's a one off, but al lass it's not..

Do they not teach basic driving skills in the force these days?

I had them all today, the mini MPV that went into the outside lane after a roundabout sat there (about 10mph under the limit) then decided that they were in the wrong lane and would prefer to drive in the space I was in.

The idiot who thought the correct position on a 3 lane roundabout to turn right was the left lane (saw that one coming a mile off).

The tt on the slip road who probably thought he was helping me by slowing down to let me in rather than maintaining speed, changing lane or letting me slip in to the flow of traffic behind him as I was intending.

And finally the dawdler who stopped at every roundabout even if no cars were about, did 35 in the 60 zone, stamped on his brakes when going into a 40 from the 60 (down to 25) then back up to 35 when he maintained through the built up 30 zone that followed.

Ahh well i saw my first of this sort of incident today when i thought i had seen it pretty much all.

Approaching a roundabout on a section of dual carriageway a merc in lane to left and slightly ahead of me starts slowing and indicates right. I think ok cool and slow to let him move left. he doesnt. We bioth get to roundabout and stop. Plonker on my left old fuddy duddy still indicating right. At this point my brain tells me he is going straight over but juuuuuuust incase keep back.

Unsurprisingly dopey decides to go straight over the roundabout whilst indicating right.

Dumbass. As said by others if i chronicled all the stupidity i see every day i could write several books.

Approached a 4 exit roundabout indicating to turn right saw a van comin down a hill towards me from exit 2 looked driver in the eye as he continued to enter roundabout and stop infront of me blocking the roundabout completely. He said sorry dorve off no harm done.

I thought all was well until the dullard behind me started to beep and flash his lightsw and give me the coffee beans for being stopeed on a roundabout! 2 cocks within 25 feet of each other briliant!

Don't you give way to traffic to your right? She had the right of way, and clearly thought you were not going to stop - which, in fairness, you probably wouldn't have, merely just filtered in behind her. She obviously took this slowing down, rather than stopping, as a sign you had not seen her.

Some people are ultra cautious on RABs, as you have discovered.

I have had this also last weekend. On my mate's bicycle, at a cross roads in front ready to cycle off straight over the cross roads. Car behind me waiting patiently. Gap in traffic so make my move. Car behind me misjudges a bit and has to hang on (over the line I might add). When she catches up to me she has the cheek to beep me, as she is driving/hasdriven past. Watched her sheepishly reach for the horn and everything I did.
Still though not as bad as being forced on to a narrow hard shoulder becuase somebody decided to cruise in to your lane without checking. Was one of those 'do not want to be a part of this club anymore if they let idiots like that in' moments.
I suppose the amount of m'way driving I do this is inevitable every now and again...

Don't quite get you chap - I was on her right. She should have given way to me. Presumably she didn't see me or thought she had more time. In her brain presumably it was translated into her thinking I was going too fast. I really wasn't.

Well I was on a bus this evening and witnessed a woman in some Kia 4WD doing her best to shove into the side of the bus from a filter lane coming onto the main road from a supermarket. We got lots of revving, a fair bit of "chicken", and finally a hoot on the horn when she finally realised that sheer aggression wasn't going to overcome a right of way occupied by a 17 ton bus.

Oh, and she was stuffing herself with a McFlurry throughout. Both hands required to use the spoon and pot. It's just amazing that some of these people get on the road frankly.

Reread your post nct. It certainly sounds like she was on your right and you were therefore on her left.

Correct use of horn - letting you know she was there. She pulled out incorrectly. Innocent mistake. Didn't want you to whack her, too late for her to reverse so sent out a warning beep.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

you said she was on the exit to your right?

still, giving way to her is one thing, having here exercise her right of way then STOPPING in front of you is tttery of the first order
