Ever thought 'He isn't going to miss us....'
Discussion
Ever been in the car and thought someone was about to plough straight into you - only for them to suddenly realise you are there and just miss a collision?
Had one today where some guy turned left into the road we were on going way too quickly, coming on to our side of the road and not even looking at where he was going - instead looking at the road he had just turned off.
We were just about at the junction to pull out ourselves and how the hell he managed to miss us is beyond me - he suddenly looked up and realised he wasn't where he should have been and managed to dive back onto the right side of the road.
Had he hit us at the speed he was doing, I don't know how I'd have reacted as SWMBO was driving and he'd have hit her side of the car - and she's 23 weeks pregnant.

Yes and I was right!
Turning sharp left in Bristol, onto a narrow road. To intense purposes a 180 deg turn. Indicated left. Because of the narrowness of the road, had to pull close to the centre of the road to give turning room.
As I was winding lock on (no power steering), heard a loud screech and saw in mirror van bearing down on me, who was trying to get up my inside. Could not unwind lock in time.

I had a very close one with a nutter on the A6071 near Carlisle a few years back.
60mph country lane and I was travelling at about 30-35 looking for a telecomms box somewhere at the side of the road, got to a blind summit and a Renault 19 was screaming towards me. I can only assume that he braked as he was turning and he lost control, spun the car a few times, hit an embankment and the car landed on its roof. The A pillars collapsed and the lad put his head through the side window. I rang 999 and then got a load of abuse off this lad because he wasn't insured as he only just bought the car
I was lucky because I was looking for something at the side of the road and was as far left as I could be, Under normal circumstances the back end of his car would have hit my van and I guess he was doing around 90mph.

About 30 minutes ago on a quiet street; the guy coming towards me was weaving aggressively, then accelerated hard and was about a foot over the white line on my side of the road. Luckily I was in Dad's defender and the fool obviously didn't realise that even tanks would bounce off of this thing, so his s
tty little eurobox wasn't going to stand much chance. I held my position but came to an almost complete halt by the time we met; he started to move over at the very last second, but it wasn't enough and the defender claimed his driver's side mirror as a trophy
The guy didn't even stop (or slow down)

You should try riding a bike and thinking the same! If everyone was made to ride one for at least a week they'd never make a manouvre without a good look ever again.
Cheers,
Rob
I have the same every day riding my push bike to work. Cheers,

Most of the journey is cycle paths but for the last mile it is quite a major main city road. People pulling out left and right all over the place. Not so bad on the way in but on the way home (around 4-5pm) it's madness.
I can usualy spot the idiots who just haven't looked and slow down, watching them just turn without even a second glance.
One thing that really pisses me off is people going right over (my over a metre) the give way line, right into my cycle lane. No need for it and makes me have to swerve out into the flow of traffic to get around them...
