Anyone have some real life experience of running costs for one of these.
I tend to get slightly higher mpg in my cars than some drivers do but am not sure about these Jeeps.

No personal experience with one, but I would suggest it's not the best choice if you're at all concerned with MPG.

worth a repost in the Yanks section?

Sorry, no personal exp but people can get low 20's average when fitted in 300Cs and Challengers but not sure how far the 4WD (is that permanant?) would drag it down.

I had one for 4 days as a courtesy car, whilst my car had some warranty work completed.
I think it was returning around 14 mp(US)g. My car has the same motor but not 4x4 and I don't get much better (around 16) - so if my experience is typical, I think you might expect sub 20mpg in the UK. They are great vehicles however. You may find the assault on your fuel budget is outweighed by their monster performance.

Not too concerned about mpg.
I've done well in the past with big capacity v8's but not in a 4x4,hence the question.
18-20 would be doable(real word?)

thinking of an all in one vehicle, work play , bikes, etc

If you can handle the thirst, I think the only consumables that might be a bit more pricey than the norm are tyres and brake pads.
Servicing the motor/trans is a dead-easy Saturday morning on your own driveway deal (it is for me, anyway). Usual rules apply - regular synth engine oil and hypoid changes, filters and plugs (16 of them unfortunately) every 50k, rather than 100k in the book.
The motor is as strong as an ox and the 4x4 traction delivers holeshots that scare the bejayzus out of anything sans-supercharger, or with a mountainous price-tag.
They are insanely fast, for such a vehicle. Un-blinged used ones are hard to come by here - they get snapped-up fast. I'd love one. The 2011 facelift is neat too.
