130i

RWD straight 6 goodness. Everything else of a hot hatch variety will be a disappointment after 4wd flat 4 burbleyness

Depends why you are replacing the WRX. For starters any n/a revvy small displacement engine will feel somewhat lacking compared to the mid range punch of a turbo motor.

None will sound as good either and arguably don't look as good.

Plus will be less fun in the wet and likely more annoying due to wheel spin and more torque steer than you'll get in the Scooby.

So the question is, why are you getting rid of the Impreza and why are you looking at hatches?

I think going from the Subaru to any hot hatch will be a regret personally.

Focus ST/RS may be worth a look at, sound as nice if not better than the WRX (IMO) and despite what people say the can be alot of fun in the twisties.

The latest WRX is a hot hatch - would that sort out both sides of the question?

The top of the range Megane is supposed to be a very good car but in truth the only person who can answer this question is you.

I hate to go against the grain here, but having had a 53 plate wrx Scooby (remapped) and recently a Clio 200 with Cup chassis, the Clio is far and away a more fun, cheaper to run car. On track the Clio is noticeably quicker that a stock WRX of the 53 vintage. On road, the Clio can be harder work, but it's still stonking. And you can get mid 30's MPG out of the clio, my WRX was woeful on fuel, I rarely got it over 24mpg in regualr driving, and even on a long run, 28 was about it.
Yes I liked the flat 4 burble, but with a sporty exhuast on it, it became tiresome.

Get the Recaros in the Clio, well worth it for £900 or so!

Dont underestimate any Clio 200s out there! I 'surprised' some pretty exotic machinery in mine!

If 0-60 is your bag, the wWRX may shave it, but not by much! After that, I reckon the Clio is quicker.

Reliability may also be something to consider.. Scoobys tend to be pretty bombproof

I had to change my rx8 earlier this year and tried a few hatchbacks, and I know it has a bit of a "fairy" image, but the BMW Mini is good fun to drive smile I went for the Mini One as fuel economy was an important factor for me, but obviously there is also the Cooper S and Works models which are quite nippy.

The Mini is nowhere near as fun / fast to drive as the RX8, but I found it the best compromise out of the hatchbacks I tried smile Another benefit is that there's a wealth of aftermarket parts available so you are not forced to stick with main dealer parts and prices (always a plus for me!)

Again, you won't find anything as good as the Subaru, but you might find something just as fun in its own way.

Drop the wrx engine in the back of a hot hatch so you can make it RWD biggrinbiglaughhehe

Im surprised that you guys dont recomend a modern hothatch over a stock WRX.

However i think my 2001 bugeye is a bit old now and from what i heard the Clio could be in the same league, while getting a better MPG and lower runing costs.

And yes BMW 130 could be something to think about it,but (sorry to say) its butt ugly.

A few years back, I replaced my 03 sti with an 06 focus st and remapped it. Before the sti I had a 182.

Half the insurance costs. Much lower on servicing, slightly better on fuel. And just as quick once rolling.

Not as aggressive obviously put the power was far more accessible.

Weirdly I drove a 2002 wrx with a few mods and a clio r27 with the new chasis back to back and the clio seemed fantastic, great fun to drive, small and fantastic cornering but I still think if you're coming from an impreza as well as clios handle I'd want a tad more power or Umph like the feel of the turbo.. They arent very tuneable unless you throw big £££ at them too
