Looking at the Jazz thread, I thought back about this, and there are a couple. In particular, a long, long time ago I needed to get some wheels in a hurry, and I bought a st Citroen Visa Club. The body was made (I think) of cling film, and the seats disintegrated as you sat on them. The 652cc engine could manage 0-60 in , er minutes? But, Christ that car was fun. The accelerator was either on or off, no in between, and it went round corners like nobody's business - yes, it leaned over like the Tower of Pisa, but its skinny tires squealed but never let go. My daughters learned to drive in it, and then screamed (?) round town with all their mates in it. My wife used it to terrorise the local pensioners for several years - it was immortal, it had so many dents and bashes that you couldn't hurt it. And of course the engine had about 18 moving parts, so never died. I once parked it up at work for about 7 months, went out to it, churned the starter a bit, and away we went!

It ultimately ended its life as a banger racer for my daughter's then boyfriend. This car ended up as a family friend that everybody had an interest in, more than I can say for its successors, even if they have got aircon, satnav, cruies control and so on. Sorry, I'll go off to bed now.

Thats easy!

1 litre 1983 toyota starlet in white.

My sister loaned me the 150 quid to buy it from a friend of hers, 12 months mot and some tax to boot thumbup

Rear wheel drive, snow, local pub carpark the size of a postage stamp - donuts with two mates in the back absolutely screaming with laughter.

That car managed to swallow up my 10 piece drumkit on a weekly basis for gigging, and then got passed on to the bass player for 100 quid a year later and continued to lug his 2 hartke bass cabs around the county.

Spectacular car! (if a little slow on the 0-60 stakes) wink

Sierra 2.0 GLSi. Red. Rear while drive. Plenty of power. Only cost couple of hundred quid so guiltess ragging all the way. Smashing fun. Like the previous post, donuts galore, full of mates. Ace.

Twingo holiday hire car.

Suspect it's a bit like a holiday romance though, you wouldn't want to bring it back to england and let it put face cream and a little pot of nail files in you bathroom cabinet

Pug 309 "look" on tragic budget tyres, everyone used and abused it, it got left everywhere, never missed a beat and despite only being a 1.3 was great fun, especially in the wet, hillarious understeer, occasional oversteer and stopping distances that would make a Ford Anglia Blush. It was just a car that felt right, £104 it cost with a bust grille and a coat of dog hair, my dad bought it to sell on again (a bit of a family hobby) and took pity on me as I was skint.

Metro 1.0 L "Clubman", now I didnt especially enjoy it but the wife loved it, apparently it was easy to see out of. Used to love driving my mums MG Metro, nippy, agile, a bit sporty, damn good fun.

1.3 Micra Auto when the wifes car was in for a repair after someone revered into it, I know they are reviled on here but we both kind of liked it in a strange way, for when you just want to go and get shopping, dont want to worry, dont want hard suspension or manual gears, nice and big and airy inside, seemed well built, decetn turn of speed relative to the tectonic plate type movement I was expecting. I can see why they are well regarded by non petrolheads, I drove the earlier one (my aunties), manual 1.0 and that was truly rubbish.

£114 Ford Escort 1.6 auto.

Most amusing feature and about the only one that worked was the handbrake, and it got used a lot.

Old freelander leant as a courtesy car by Land Rover. We just ragged it round a wet field for a couple of hours, then gave it a quick pressure wash when it was time to give it back.

Yugo 55 GLS

Red with Alloys, body kit and spot lamps

Thrshed without mercy for 12 months and never missed a beat.
Clutch only used to stop or pull away.
Throttle had 2 positions off and throught the floor.

Never lift for a bend, just chuck it in!

After I lost my job (and company car) my mate lent me a 180,000 mile burgundy Granada Scorpio 2.0 Auto. It had a blown head gasket, no power, a lot of rust and wasnt even the interesting ugly shape onef, but it was oddly satisfying to smoke around in it for a few weeks. It expired in a cloud of steam on the M4 some weeks later whilst in the custody of someone else in need of a cheap runaround.

Kia Avella rental car..it wasn't in bad nick when I got it, aircon that worked, all 4 windows electrically operable from driver's armrest. It transported many piles of people all over the small badly paved island of Malta for a year and never missed a beat or needed to be slowed for speed bumps. I killed it and gave it back.

First car.

1992 Polo Fox 1.0.

I think when it rolled out of the factory it had 45 asthmatic horses or thereabouts.

Coaxing pace cross country was a serious art - making use of any hills or wind behind..

Fiat 850 coupe, bought for £23, took 2 too club together to pay.
Red line was about 8k. Seized and left in a field, later spotted for sale for £600 still siezed, we were 15. Didn't realise it was a classic, (as so didn't the folks that sold it to us), just chuffed with £25 from the scrappy.
Happy days.
