Anyone own/owned one. Ive seen a couple that I like but just wanted some info on running costs, MPG etc? I'm mainly looking at examples under 12k, would prefer something from a main dealer with less than 60k on t'clock. Thanks for your help in advance.

I've got the poor man's version. MPG is around 34 in mixed driving. Golf should be better as it's a smaller car.

Yeah quite easily. Fuel economy's pretty good for what it is.

Can see 36ish on my 12 mile commute, which is a mixture of built up areas, dual carriageways and A roads.

I've had my DSG GTi for four and a half years, unusual for me because I have a short attention span.

MPG is 28 ish - mostly short trips and a twenty minute commute through the countryside. I have been thinking of replacing it for a while but cannot decide what to move up to. The golf does everything I want a car to do and it still puts a smile on my face on a Sunday morning blast in the countryside. I love the options on the car; xenons, leather etc etc and I am looking forward to having it detailed to freshen it up.

Just joined the PH community, so I am a complete newbie and I would like to say hello to everyone.

It's 7am on Saturday morning, the sun is shining in deepest wiltshire, time to blow the cobwebs out of the golf!

Ran an edition 30 GTI for 8 months. Incredible car, almost perfect but a little too clinical, scrappy chassis at the limit and, like you, I got bored.

Had one for a couple of years and loved it. Had some regrets after changing it for an S3, which was quicker but had less character. Think I got 33-34mpg most of the time. I didn't think the servicing costs were expensive, but it is all relative. Tyres a bit pricey if the car has 18" alloys (and these are a must).

If your not getting leather make sure you like the retro tartan seats echoing back to the mk1 my mrs hated then - still wouldn't put me off buying but it's something to consider.

S3 owner I do like the S3 265bhp 4wd Audi interior very nice that said the gti in the right colour looks great even the oldest examples still look fresh

I'd love one of these, a 3 door edition 30 in red or that steely/dophiny grey colour. I quite like the tartanseats but agree they might be an aquired taste. Not sure if I'd want an manual or dsg, only driven a Ibiza cupra with the dsg box but I liked that as has the flexibility of full auto when you just wanna cruise around in stop start traffic

Hmm, looking good then. I love the tartan seats. Would like the DSG too. Thanks for letting me know about the pump and belt change. Right, better go and sweeten mrs plumber up somehow....

Do the washing up, make her a cup of tea, take her shopping? Or just do the old trick of buying the car and saying you had to buy it because you got such a good deal lol

I'm just making her a coffee now actually and we're going to the cash and carry this afternoon (not quite what you had in mind is it). She likes the golf too though, its just her being carefull with money. I think she would warm to one more if she had a drive of one though.

I tend to find I can get away with big purchases more if I demonstrate restraint in other areas, started taking sandwiches to work etc to save money and then the missus ok'd a holiday to the states

A must if you prefer to compromise your ride and handling on typical British roads.

My MkV GTI handled best on the set of 17s I got to put winter tyres on (before I swapped the rubber).
