I span my car the other day, all my own fault etc and its a total loss so I'mlooking for another car

Ive been very surprised at the initial insurance quotes from the comparison sites... Ive got protected no claims so keep 5 years but getting a quote for a clio 182 is £1400 compared to the £800 I have payed for the MR2 turbo!

How can I can a car that is a number of insurance groups lower, and a UK car vs import be almost double the price?

If this is normal practice, does anyone have suggestions for a fun car that is cheap to ensure (apart from an mx5!).

Cheers!

Protected NCB is just that...Protected NCB

It doesn't protect the basic insurance premium, but it will give a discount against the heavily loaded premium you will be hit with following a large claim.

Insurance grouping's are there as a general guide but ultimately its down to the individual insurers statistics i.e. there are a number of group 1 cars that are higher than group 5 cars as lots of young drivers will by group 1's and crash them thus statistically a higher risk

Not bother re type of car as I dont need the car for work, and live in london so I use it purely for pleasure!

Would need to be reliable and fun (and now cheap to insure). Im no mechanic so something that is easy on the maintenance.

Your insurane would of went up anyway. Insurance companys took a hammering at christmas time with people crashing on the snow and ice. And every man and there fking dog claiming for whip lash if they bump up a curb!

Based on claims history. You still have to declare the claim, irrespective of NCB. So your premium still goes up.

Doubt anyone would get paid out though so that isn't the cause.

They do , insurance companies don't give a fk . For them it's cheaper to pay out then hire a solicitor or extra staff to prove they couldn't have had whiplash

So I bump up a curb and then claim against myself for negligence?*

Makes you wonder then why these teams of <ahem> foreign gentlemen bother with elaborate scams getting people to run into the back of them when all they had to do was tap the curb themselves.

  • Can't.

You can if you have personal injury insurance . However They use the run in ya back technique so they can claim 20 times a year

My car insurance has just gone up 50% with no changes and no claims. Dreading my bike renewal which is due soon. May have to sell it to pay the bill.

A large part of the hike in premium will be the book value of the car im guessing.

I had a woman drive into the back of me, and somehow my insurance went up because it has to be declared as an accident.. So I get hit from behind and I get punished by the insurance company.

You can't allege negligence against yourself under PI.

Yup, insurance is just going up anyways - I've been rewarded with a hike in premium from 270 quid last year to 340 this year, despite another year of claim-free motoring - and that's after a good few hours shopping around on pretty much every comparison website going...
