First post, so my apologies if this is not the right place.

We found a car that we really liked last weekend - and took our Mondeo to get a part-ex price. The garage took the keys for the Mondeo to have a look, and came back saying the DMF was on its last legs, so their best price for it was £1800. Lower than we wanted, but the car was due a service and MOT (plus every car I've ever sold privately has been a proper pain in the arse!).

We accepted the £1800 in part ex, an invoice was drawn up and signed my me and the garage, with a balance outstanding of £6940. Went back last night to collect the car, and the garage suddenly decided that the turbo and diffs are also on their last legs and knocked another £400 off the part-ex price.

After arguing for an eternity, they were not backing down, the kids were bored so we just paid the money. Probably stupid of us, but we just wanted to go home in our new car!

Sorry this is long (just trying to get all relevant stuff in!) Can the garage do this? I have a signed copy of the invoice at home that states £1800 part-ex.
