Looked at an Impreza at a reputable Subaru dealer that is tuned to 400bhp. Apart from more regular servicing interval would it handle 20k miles a year as a daily driver? It has 30k on the clock.
Any input appreciated.

Yes, but the fuel bill would be crippling.

Buy it and then a £500 smoker. You will make your money back quite quickly.

You could argue that it would be more reliable as the chances are the internals are forged at the power - thus stronger. It depends on whether you deploy all 400bhp regularly on your commute.

My only warning would be a 400bhp rally tool will probably be very loud and very very stiff and not a good commuter. The suspension kits that some people put on these cars boggles the mind.

You can empty half a tank in twenty miles of full on boost hooning, in a mere PPP. Good luck with 20k miles laugh

Fuel is not particularly an issue, i'm getting 21mpg with my WRX.

It is a stock WR1 with just the engine tuning - 5k's worth apparently. It isn't particularly harsh suspension wise and it has the PPP exhaust so is loud when pushing on but ok when crusing. The tyres may be an issue - i got 7k out of the last set of fronts on the WRX.

What internal work has been done though? As I said 400bhp is at a level were forging is *probably* required for longevity.

I haven't seen the list of internal upgrades - blinded by the speed and noise hehe The dealer will warranty it for 12 months (T & C's pending i suppose)

I had my wrx ppp estate for two years and 60k and its one of the car I really miss.

Tyres : I used to get circa 20k out of a set

Fuel : I averaged 26mpg

Servicing : every other month ( can be pricy lucky to have a friend that owns a garage)

Down sides :

I missed cruse control, sat nav, any form of creature comforts ... now have a 730d sport and its far far far better in every respect.

IF your going to actually use the power regularly you can forget about your irrelevant WRX mpg figures. 4 mpg is the ball park figure for 400 bhp turbo four pot when making progress

What does the warranty cover? If the HG's go, big ends go bang, gearbox goes pop, etc, are they likely to replace these things, or tell you it's wear and tear from it having it's kicked in?
Good point

Also, you really need to see a spec sheet to decide if you think it's going to be reliable. If it's standard internals with something like a TD05 cranked up to a bar or so, with a big intercooler, it's probably not going to last. If it's been done properly, it's a different story, but i still wouldn't do 20k a year in one.
No it isn't just a remap. The intercooler is large and mounted at the front.

Maybe on the newer 2.5, but this has the former 2.0 which can take this power without issue.

so that would mean, on full bore hoon/tracking you'd have a range, from brimmed to empty of about 60-70 miles eek
