I saw a girl driving a modified Fiesta last night- 20ish, decent looking, in a Fiesta ST with a front mount intercooler (so turbo conversion), front ram-air style intake in place of a fog-lamp, lowered, big brakes etc, but no cosmetic mods (boy/male friend in passenger seat, indie rocker type (just didn't look the car guy type- I know that doesn't make entire sense). This got me thinking, if it was a young guy driving it I would've probably jumped to stereotypical conclusions and thought either "car-geek" or "chav". But as it was a girl and I suspected it was her car (obv could be wrong here, but she was driving it like it was hers) I kinda thought "cool chick, likes her cars".

Does anyone else think its ok for girls to drive certain cars, but if a guy was driving them they'd look chavy/geeky/otherwise?

I know Clarkson has that 'Girl in an Impreza - cool, guy in an Impreza - Rally Geek that like standing in forests' thing that he goes on about, but he doesn't always make sense smile

I know people call me a hairdresser for driving an MR2, so it works both ways I assume?!!

Any opinions?

Yes.

My girlfriend said she got lots of attention when she drove my old modified MR2 turbo, even better that she could beat them off the lights. Where as we get called hairdressers.

Generally most fiesta ST are supercharged rather than turbo but anyway. There are a fair few girls on the owners club with S/C Fiesta ST's. I understand what you mean, I saw a girl driving an 09 plate Civic Type R the other day. She was absolutely demolishing it! A friend knows her and she is very much into her jap performance! Also pretty hot

Its wasted time I tell you, because after they loose interest in cars..they move into other things like dogs and cats!

I was behind a Boxster driven by a blonde girl the other day. When we got to a junction, a middle aged guy in a mondeo almost caused a crash by stopping and gawking at her while letting her out......I then waited at the junction for ages with no one being courteous to me!!!

I think if it was a man driving the Porsche he would have waited some time too....

I've noticed this too. Letting the missus drive the Impreza (and give it some beans) usually invokes a lot of eekyum, but when I drive it I usually get a nice friendly cursecensored instead. Even had guys coming up to a girlfriend after getting out of the car expressing their interest... and then their disdain when I clamber out of the passenger seat (after fumbling for the door handle on the right hand side of the car!)

I had my then G/F insured on my Nissan 300zx twin turbo when she was 21, i use to love her picking me up in it.
She would always need a bit of encouraging to welly it off the line in the customary traffic light GP's!

My missus likes to drive the Viper. Thank F**k she has a healthy respect for pressure on the right foot. Cos otherwise she's definitely a "pedal to the metal" bh !

Cars are for people

Women are people

People buy cars

Some of the people who buy cars are women

You see women in all kinds of cars

What's the big deal?

Did you not read the thread? We are discussing that as car enthusiasts, we have a different perception of women driving performance cars than men.

My missus loves driving my cars, mainly just the extra oomph under the right foot that her volvo doesn't have. She certainly gets some attention in the Alfa from (mainly male) other drivers.

Next door female neighbour (19 year old lap dancer) had a peugeot 206 with the worst bodykit you could possibly put on the thing. Lowered to within a coin's width of the deck. Two huge exhausts you could just about put your head in. Massive rear spoiler similar to Escort RS Cossie on it. 1.4 engine as she couldn't insure it otherwise. Fecking horrible car that she only wanted for the max power looks and completely immune to performance.

On my way to Munich airport last night were two honies in a Swiss plated newish XK convertible. They got my attention but oddly didn't reciprocate. Thought they'd have appreciated a fat, bald bloke in a rented Citroen C3.
