the wife had her impreza vandalised last week, insurance have paid out, so we are left searching for a new family motor.

budget is 3k.

we have 5 year old and 15 day old children so must be good for them.

nothing old (she says nothing older than 2000)

has to have a bit of poke, but derv or petrol is fine.

5 door, saloon or estate

nothing french.

she does like her audi's, and was looking at a4/a6 tdi quattro, also jap cars are always a fave.

i throw the floor open to you, the PH Collective.

A Seat something with a 1.8T engine in it. You get Audiability, but cheaper and a bit more sporty. It doesn't drink that much either.

GF used to have a Seat Toledo, Boring as hell, but couldn't really failt it, Comfy and good on a run, loads of room and a huge boot. 2003 20v SE model, 60k and paid £2200 for it, realy can't be sniffed at, kept it for a year and sold it for exactly the same money with an extra 8k on it.

How badly vandalised was it? Presumably it needs a respray, but would £10 on touch up pots be sufficient if you really didn't care how it looked?

Me too.

Saab with a 2.0T or 2.3T, or a Volvo of some description. Volvo's are obviously very strong cars, nice attribute if you're ferrying the kids about imo.
hate the saab's, and we had a fairly high spec s40 t4 before the impreza.

to the suggestion of another impreza, dont fancy another one, not really that quick in standard trim and uber expensive to run & maintain.

High Spec Volvo.

If some little tt smashed up the old one I wouldn't like to take my chances with something like a 5 series( my first thought) or a half decent Audi.
Volvos might just blend into obscurity.

What about a Mazda 6? 2.3 sport should just about fall in budget - albeit high mileage

Scrap the high mileage, tasty one on autotrader with only 73000 miles on it for £2995

If your local scrotes are that bad, I suspect an Audi would be as prone to vandalism as the Scoobie. Something like this would be much more stealthy, and a better driver than the Audis:

Any 'R' spec volvo would be a hoot but could be too old, then again they are very safe for your kids... How about a Integra Type R or 3 series...E39 5 series M-Sport as well....many options! Good luck!
Integra's are probably too expensive....I thought 5k budget for some reason....
