Hi - before anyone asks, I don't need a police car, a friend of mine has written off his car, just a simple accident at a roundabout, but the car wasn't worth a great deal.

He now needs a motor, quickly, preferably tomorrow.

It's a low budget, only 1k (or pretty near), he's got 2 kids, so needs to be practical, wants it to be reliable and cheap to run, so no big engines.

I've suggested Hondas (Civic or Accord) or Mondeos, what do you guys reckon? Please post any links to anything reasonable, he might well buy it!

I think based on that. ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, does it matter what badge? Just buy on condition and availability. If it needs it soon and only has £1k then he is hardly likely to travel 200-300 miles in total while he evaluates 6 different motors.

1. Look on PH classifieds/autotrader type places
2. Look in local paper
3. Look at local small car traders
4. Buy what is the best on offer and don't give a chuff about the badge.

And why, exactly do you get free advertising?

Civic etc. too small, he'll need the extra space for car seats and all the other gubbins that goes with kids. Mondy'll do it.

Hardly. No URL linkage, no website in his profile, simply an offer to help a fellow PH'er out.

(presumably at decent rates, even with the eyes of the world on the deal wink )

Where has he mentioned his company? He hasn't, it's not even on his profile.

It's not advertising, by responding like that to a request for a car. It can continue off the forum by emails quite easily.

I agree to a certain extent, you're right, the badge isn't important.

I was pointing him to Hondas because they're really reliable - I've had a couple and had no trouble - and Fords because they're cheap to run (parts, etc), rather than say, a Renault, because they're really, really badly made by drunk Frenchmen, or a Rover because the head gaskets go every time you move the car.

Civic of any type... Both my bro and Grandma have '96 ones....perfect form, neither have ever wanted more than tyres! They are easily available accross the country so its worth spending 5 minutes more rather than going for the nearest cheap banger...If you manage to find a focus for that money....buy it! You can even find e39 5 series' for that money if your lucky and of course 3 series'...like i said it's worth having a quick look around and spending a bit more time... it could easily make your (friends) day!
