Like most owners of slightly unusual vehicles, I'm used to having my cars confused for other models by the uninformed. I had a Skyline which was usually thought to be a Ford Mustang by the frankly disturbing number of middle-aged chaps who felt the need to strike up unnecessary conversation at petrol stations. I had an Evo 6 which was often confused for a Cavalier with a bad body kit, although that was at least understandable. However, last week I think I had my favourite case of mistaken identity:

Two young lads are in the school car park, looking at my recently acquired Smart Roadster trying to work out what it is. One goes round the back. He's not the best reader, bless him, so he starts trying to read the letters off the badge one at a time but can't quite do it... so he gets S, M, R, A, T. And, in a wonderful moment as dyslexia and limited car knowledge collide, he reaches the only conclusion possible:

"It's a Maserati!"

Cue obligatory "wicked blad innit" etc as they run off to tell their mates what sir's new car is.

I know it's wrong to mock the afflicted but yes, I did laugh. Maybe I won't de-badge the boot after all!

Now that would be funny. Sadly, I think PH is a little above their reading age.

When I had my Corrado many moons ago it was forever being referred to as a Scirrocco, which irritated me ALOT

A few years after this I ended up going out with a girl that had a Corrado and she suffered the exact same problem

I wouldn't have minded really but I did, and still do dislike Scirroccos

Does this mean you are a teacher at their school and therefore responsible for their poor attempt at grammar and spelling?

I remember a heated argument in a pub I was in.
Some chinless wonder was convinced that he had a Toyota Civic Type R. Turns out he didn't after all.

A mate of mine got asked at a petrol station if his Mustang was a Skyline.

Saab 900 Convertible...response..."Nice Jag"
Hillman Imp..."I know what that is, it's a mini saloon! Is it fibreglass?"
Hillman Imp..."Mr. Bean had a green one of those"...No he didn't it was, actually, a mini.
There are some cretins around these parts! The "mini saloon" bloke did let me go in a car park that was only for permit holders though...result!
