VW and extended warranties - compulsory inspection?!?
Discussion
Becs' GTi is just about to hit 3 years, and we're going to take an extended warranty out on it, as a just-in-case. Two options were VW's own, or Car Care Plan Ltd's offer through the dealership chain (who you'd associate with Red Dwarf).
Anyway, she goes in, gets the paperwork to both, we compare them at home (not much difference), and she calls today to try and get the CCP one arranged. No call back, so she turns up in person after work tonight, to be told "it'll have to have a 90-point inspection, that'll be £175 please, and we can't book it in until next week". Naturally, she calls me going "WTF?"
I tell her to tell them that's a new one, and why wasn't it mentioned (a) when she went in earlier this week and (b) in the paperwork, so to ask them what's going on. All of a sudden:-
- they'll waive the fee for the inspection.
- they can fit it in tomorrow morning.
- but they'll need the car all morning.
Now I still think this is a little dodgy (surely if it was compulsory it'd be in the paperwork???), and it's pratting our plans for tomorrow right up.
So has anyone else come across this for cars that are still under mfrs warranty? Our prior experiences are Honda (no inspection), Ford (no inspection) and Warranty Direct (no inspection, qualifying period if not taken out consecutively with expiry of mfrs warranty).
Finally, assuming this isn't SOP for VW, what ARE they up to?!? And do I trust them?!? "Mind if I hang around for the inspection guys, be nice to have a good look around the car..."

Cheers Tonker!
Also, the policies seem pretty close in terms of cover (airbags is the only notable omission on the CCP one), plus we'll save ~£120 over 2 years by taking CCP over VW.

If I could get an extended VW warranty, I wouldn't even contemplate a third party one.
CCP seem to have better reviews than most a/market suppliers, and they provide the policies for most/all dealer-supplied warranties, plus some "manufacturer" (read: UK-wide dealer provided which can therefore carry the brand name on it) extended warranties. Wouldn't be considering them otherwise. Also, the policies seem pretty close in terms of cover (airbags is the only notable omission on the CCP one), plus we'll save ~£120 over 2 years by taking CCP over VW.
