Apparently the Tories are going to end the war on the motorist, but with money as tight as it is, and every penny counting, what can we expect for VED over the next few years. At the moment, I pay £230ish for a 2004 ST220, but that's only because anything registered pre-May 2006 is capped at band "K." It seems probable that the squeeze on finances makes it likely that this immunity will be short lived, and in 2011 I can expect a £400+ VED bill.

Does everyone else think this will happen? Is this going to kick the bottom out of the market for cars with even moderately-sized engines that are around 6-7 years old?

Costs of motoring are always going to go up so I guess yes it will go up ved reason being to try to reduce logistics costs and therefore lower inflation.
