Don't you just hate the combination of auto locks and forgetfulness?

Last night I managed to leave my keys in the boot whilst unloading the car and close the boot, now the Ibiza has this annoying auto lock feature that will lock the ar after you've left it opened for two mins.

Which useful if you forget to lock the car, less so if you've locked your keys in.

This was yesterday, I had the rac out and they can't open it. I've pretty much resigned myself to smashing the window but I've had an idea.

Do you think it's possible to get a key from the dealership? I just need something to open the door or boot. I suspect this won't workout I'd thought I'd ask.

Autoglass have quoted me £200 for a new window frown

Worth a try, they may have a master just for opening doors.

eta is there a small window that could be broken?

I managed to get a copy key for a transit van after losing mine a few years back. It would be worth giving them a ring to find out, only it's Sunday

Edit - I didn't lose my keys, I left them in the ignition and the security guard locked them in. The new key could only unlock the door as said above

Get on ebay/phone a scrap yard. Find a window that is easy to replace (pop out 3 door rear ones are easiest if the ibiza has them?). Smash said window and replace yourself. Probs cost you £30?

Had to do it myself a few times, twice in Fiat Unos when the doors locked themselves when slamming the door with the engine running, and once in a Rover Coupe doing exactly the same.

Break the glass - you are bound the have window cover on your insurance and it should only cost you the excess - or does this only cover windscreens?

Last time I locked my keys in the car I was able to force a bent metal rod through the door seal and press the unlock button on the drivers armrest with it.
Most aa/rac guys carry an unraveled coathanger for this purpose and usually can wrap it round the interior door pull with a bit of twiddling.

Phone the AA or RAC....they'll know a trick to get in without smashing a window or damaging anything

Have you got pillarless doors? You can sometimes pry some of the seal off from behind the window, letting you slip a coat hangar etc in to try and press an unlock button.

Didn't the rac use a tiny air bag that they slide in the top of the door, pump it up, door slightly opens at the top so you can get a wire to the door lock?

Get a proper RAC guy.

There are ways to do this. The words "teflon door wedge" and "rubber mallet" are your friends. I speak from experience.

Yep, they did this for me once. Keys in ignition, car running, i got out and closed the door and it locked itself.

That actually makes my suggestion work easier.

The teflon wedges are the way I've seen this done.

If you can force a wire through the door seal then you should be able to hook it on the door handle and pull it to unlock the door

I take it the RAC patrol didn't back feed the electrics to power up the ignition which would enable the windows to be operated (has to be a specific wire or you'll bugger things up). It's even easier if it's poverty spec with manual wind down rear windows. Bit of advice get on the net and join the AA ring back later this afternoon and they'll come out and open it for you.

Recently had to 'break into' a Mustang as the guy left the keys in the ignition.I had to wedge the door frame open to make a gap, then insert a wire/rod to reach the door pull.Couple of atempts and it worked.
