Seeing as TG are as idiotic as most other UK motoring publications, umm let's compare this 2 door coupe to a 4 door saloon car costing some £40,000 more type of thing.

I thought maybe here on PH we should se some other useful comparisons. Maybe a Nissan 370z compared to the out going BMW M5, or how about a Rav4 compared to a Porsche Cayman??

Or maybe the best would be an MX-5 compared to a Superlight 500 or a 1200cc Sports bike.

I have a suspicion the comparison was actually because they both have a 6.2 litre V8...?

The American car came off worst, didn't it?

Well it seemed to do better than a standard e46 M3 and was as fast as many other nice to own performance cars. TG seemed to miss reporting this. All they managed to do was say a more powerful and hasty more expensive car was faster and probably better. As if you needed to do a testto tell that????

As for the engine size comparison. Well I wonder why they didn't compare a 130i to a Noble then. Or maybe a Lotus Elise to a 1.8 Astra???

You mean like when people ask what car for their aging mother who lives on Guernsey and you invariably suggest a Plymouth Superbird or a Ford F350 Duallie. . . . . . . . hehe

Price is the great equaliser. Or if you are looking at buying a new car, do you also go and test drive other vehicles costing double??

Price is a great equaliser but the only question to which America is the right answer is who spilled all the oil.

It's not that. Its just everytime an American performance car is reviewed in Britain they always pit it against something cost stupid amounts more, and then miraculously proclaim the more expensive car the better one.

I'd just loved to have seen a worthwhile review, may e pitting it against something like a 335i and a well specced 370z. They should have put them in a drag race (as they did later with the saloon cars) as well as chucking them round the track. I'd have been genuinly interested to see how the 3 compared to each other.

So what do you think they should've compared it to?

TG gave up being a Motoring Magazine show years ago - It's just a comedy with cars.

Obviously no-one with AMG Merc money to spend would buy a Camaro...

M

PS The US press seem to have grown tired of the Camaro rather quickly too, though.

Calm down, dear, he still wanted the Camaro....and after such a thorough, incisive and comprehensive test in which he told you...er, nothing, who could blame him.

Besides, as you saw, the Maserati was worst and was their choice of the upmarket Capris.

I would personally love a Merc AMG and would probably pick one over the camaro until it came to running it at which point I would run as fast as I could from the AMG and service the Camaro myself, on my drive, in an afternoon.

.. Except of course Daimler divested from Chrysler a few years ago (2007), and got rid of their last remaining share last year. Chrysler was sold off to a private wealth fund (Cerberus).

Chrysler now have a lot more to do with Fiat than Daimler - Fiat own something along the lines of 20% of the "new chrysler" and will probably eventually swallow the rest.

Why do people keep confusing Chrysler with GM?
