What does the sport button on 57 plate Vauxhall Zafira 1.9 CDTI actually do?

Car is slower than a week in jail anyway and I can't feel any differance.

Beyond amusing myself by pretending it 's like the M button in an M5, unleashing a torrent of extra power, what is it's function?

You can tell other people that it exists, and make them snort in a derisory fashion?

Long answer;
To ease the pain of pussy-whipped dads who've been forced to buy and then drive around in a pauxhaull-mong-mobile by making it seem sportier than it actually is?

Short answer;
Nothing?

When youre driving the family to ASDA on a Saturday morning to join the scramble for ill-fitting clothes and a million "buy 30 packets for the price of 20" special offers, in the motoring equivalent of a t-shirt that says "Ive given up on life.", you press it to make the Mrs think you still have something resembling a dangerous side.

It turns on the front fogs, 'cause that's sporty innit?

I don't know what it does in standard spec but it can be used to switch between ECU maps if the car gets remapped.

Serious guess - does it make the steering a little bit heavier and possibly even increase the throttle response (ie half throttle becomes full throttle)?

It does absolutely bu99er all. I drove 800 miles to Norfolk and back, involving a bit of opportune overtaking of caravans and trucks on single lane A roads, whilst carrying 5 fat blokes.

We all struggled to notice any difference the button made with it on or off. In the end it stayed on as a 'false sense of security' button in case there was any chance it made the overtaking slightly safer.

Try turning it on and off when manouvering at low speed and see if the weight of the steering changes.

My mate was on the phone last night & was telling me about this 'sport' button.

Absolutely laughable.

I think it does something to the throttle map - FiL had a 1.8 petrol Zafira as a company car (no choice, unfortunately).

Oh, and the button lights up when pressed! Woo!

Just confirm and keep my credibility I drive the Zafira at work on a regular basis!!!

Drive a 172 Cup in my own time!

If it changes steering at low speed why is it called a sport button?

If it makes the steering heavier it would be more noticeable at lower speed. I'm totally guessing though mate.

I reckon it's more marketing purposes. It's more appealling for blokes to turn the sports button 'off' for manouvering than to press a girl "city" button on to lighten the steering.

Friend used to have a Astra 1.9 CDTI with the same feature, and he said he was pushing on one day to find the car hit top speed at xxx mph, and upon pushing the button found that the car rocketed (in the loosest sense of the word) on to a higher top speed.

Obviously I can't vouch for the accuracy of this...

It changes the throttle map and makes the steering a bit heavier on the sporthatch, according to Evo

Did he press the button just as he reached the top of a hill? lol
