Neither. Lotus allows a Malaysian-funded, British-based independent F1 team to use its name. The company does endorse the team, but I think it's largely a commerical tie-up.

Ok so in simple terms.

Does Lotus as those nice people in Norfolk have anyting to do with the F1 Lotus team. I know someone else owns team lotus but its not owned by those nice people in Norfolk as they sold it. So if there is a deal to put team lotus with the Malaysian owned Lotus F1 team its still not Norfolk based Lotus. See its easy eh? Who the fk whos who ?????

Ah just seen the above post

But as the article says, there is the possibility of engines making their way into road cars. Not sure how good they are on emmissions compared to the Toyota engines though....

I'd quite like to see it happen, as long as there's not a RenaultSport Lotus edition!
