if im honest i rarely visit or recommend halfords but on this occasion i will.

The batteries they sell may cost a bit more but the 5 year warrenty is useful and really is no questions asked just turn up with battery and receipt and swap for a new one.

Go to Halfords and have a look.

Then phone your loal motor factors (see yell.com) and then buy the same battery or better for 2/3 the price, with an equally long warranty.

If you take a battery back to Halfords now they connect it to a little machine to test its health before replacing it.

Ok i stand corrected, i last changed mine about 6 or 7 months ago after problems with my cars electrical system. I literally handed over the receipt the guy checked it and said find one off the shelf. To be fair he checked the replacement!

Bosch Silver top if you can find one. I bought from a guy on eBay for my Disco 2. His feedback was patchy but I got good service. Lucky I guess,

I've churned a battery through Halfords a couple of times, getting a new replacement when the replacement died inside warranty. But they've changed their policy, so now the warranty on the replacement is only valid until the warranty on the original expires. frown

So, faced with a £99.99 replacement from Halfords or a £50 replacement from www.advancedbatterysupplies.co.uk with slightly higher but more-or-less identical specs, I went with the latter. Free next day delivery, four-year warranty, no complaints with it so far. Although I've only had it two weeks, and only used it twice. smile

It'll be interesting to see what others say - if the car was parked outside, and I needed it to start first-time, every time, all through the winter, then I would likely have paid a premium for a 'name' - I wonder whether that would have been worthwhile?

It might depend on the member of staff whether they check or not.

Or perhaps they just thought I looked shifty!

I work in a motor factors, (little independant place) & cant believe Halfrauds get away with the prices they charge!!

Just looked & a 4 year 075 is £93.99!

We do no quibble exchange, 4 year at £54.99! & ours are Bosche re-labelled to our name!

I suppose if people are willing to pay that! rolleyes

+1.
I had one in my old 528i, it withstood years of abuse and still did it's job. Not cheap though.

I've just walked back in the house having just swapped the battery on my Impreza.
I bought a battery from Halfords in November 08. Ever since, if I leave the car for any period of time, the battery is ok to work the central locking but not turn the starter motor. I've been back with it twice to have it checked and both times they've claimed to need it over night to fully charge it prior to testing it on their little machine and claimed it was fine. Today, it was that flat it wouldn't power the central locking after its been stood for two weeks whilst we were on holiday. My charger is saying the battery was either damaged or too flat to charge, so I took it back again. This time I spoke with the manager who tested it whilst it was still flat and confirmed it was faulty and gave me a new one. I did have to dig through my bank statements for proof of purchase though because I'd lost the receipt. I don't know if I'm happy I have new one or angry because I'm convinced it was a duff all along.

Recently had to buy a new battery for the 350Z:

Halfords wanted £89.99 for their own brand with a 4-year guarantee.

I got a Varta, with 5 year guarantee, from Multicell for £63.27

Halfords will price-match, so do it the other way round and get the 3/4/5 year guarantee dependent on what type of battery you are buying
