Indeed!

What did that bright spark say it stood for?
Our VP worked at Chrsyler engineering for several years and I showed him that post! He almost pissed himself with laughter!

The name is "HEMI"; which stands for "High Efficiency Multi Injection" or some rubbish. In typical American fashion the come up with the acronym first and then mangle words into it.

And there I was thinking it was called a Hemi because of the hemispherical combustion chambers, what was I thinking rolleyes

Nooo, the 'new' Hemi is slightly less hemi like, that motor in the '70 is the legendary original Hemi engine, it does have hemispherical chambers and a rather impressive way of operating the valves from a single cam and pushrod set up.

Difficult as it might be to imagine an American being ironic, I believe Matt Harper was being ironic.
