Fast, fun- and unlike the Alfa 146 I had before it had a gearbox and clutch that worked...

And thanks to my employer at the time it was too cheap to turn down.

When I was buying, I testdrove quite a few things with some fairly whizzbang technology.
I ended up with the TT because it was the lightest car from the VAG range with the engine I wanted (2 litre turbo petrol, FSI).

Specifically, I bought the car because of the injectors and knock control, and the fact that the overall car is quite light for what it is. So it's fast, but also returns great MPG when you really try, because of the funky injection system.

Superceded now, of course.

Elise - I test drove it and within five minutes I was hooked. The ride was incredible, the controls great to use, and the agility and performance were good. Within that first five minutes of the test drive I was convinced it was the best car I'd ever driven, and I still think that four years later.

BMW Z4 Coupé - it drove so much better than the saloons that I'd been looking at, and I was told it took a roof rack - job done! (I later found out it didn't take the roof rack, after they'd taken my money...).

BMW 530i - the engine and RWD chassis
MX5 - handling and lack of PAS
Scenic - err, it wasn't really a decision I got too involved with...

BMW - I needed 40+mpg economy, and I wanted at least 200bhp in something I could afford

928 - Inherited it as a shed... well more of a shed anyway

Elise - Nothing can come close for the same money, with just enough practicality to make it useable.

Corolla - Needed something cheap, reliable and reasonably fuel efficient for the daily commute, plus its very easy to work on myself if it needs it.
