So my Dad was given a Jaguar XKR (510bhp) for a 24hr test drive, Jag do this for all of the execs where he works. Well I was taken out in it today, and I am blown away by the performance. It unbelievably fast. It undoubtedly the fastest car I've ever been in. I'm a Porsche fan, but I can still honestly say that it is far faster than my Uncles 996 Turbo S! The interior is beautiful, it looks awesome from the outside (exactly the same as in pic below) and it doesn't half grip the road well.

I never though the car would be anywhere near as good as this. The bottom line is, I think Jag make fantastic cars now (the last was an XF SV8, and that was also brilliant) - I can't believe how understated and underestimated they are by people. So, has anybody else been pleasantly surprised by a new Jag? It would be nice to know other peoples experiences with them!

Had an XFR for a few hours from a friend and took it round the Norfolk country side.

I was pleasantly surprised at its overall pace, quality and handling. It was a fantastic piece of kit.

Funnily enough i was just saying to my colleague how Jag have started to step up their game recently - they now produce a bloody good line up of cars these days!

Um, I don't think so:

Jaguar XKR 510bhp
Max speed 155 miles/h (250 km/h)
0-100 km/h 4.6 seconds
0-160 km/h 9.0 seconds
0-200 km/h 13.3 seconds
0-300 km/h -
Quarter mile 12.8 seconds

Porsche 996 Turbo S
Max speed 190.34 miles/h (307 km/h)
0-100 km/h 4.1 seconds
0-160 km/h 8.5 seconds
0-200 km/h 13.1 seconds
0-300 km/h -
Quarter mile 11.9 seconds

So from 100-160km/h they're the same, and from 100-200 the Jag is faster? The discrepancy being down to the Porsche's 4wd traction off the line.

I certainly wouldn't be saying this if it wasn't true. It's definitely nowhere near as quick off the line, it still has traction problems at around 50mph. Whilst going along though, it's definitely alot faster. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Jag have given this one a fair bit of tweaking - it is a press car after all.

I've always loved the older XKRs, I think the new ones are bloody lovely... but I'd rather have the XFR.

I have to agree with the OP, I saw one on a roundabout near home the other day, it looked absolutely gorgeous in bright metallic blue.
And the sound!.....cloud9

11.9 1/4 mile in stock trim? That seems a tad too quick IMO. Got a link for it?

Have to say, I'm a huge Jag fan and have been for a long time. And there's no denying the current cars are very good, but for me, there just seems something missing that they used to have.

I did look at a new XJ at the weekend, lot nicer in the flesh than in pics, but the wrong colour and they look more like a Vauxhall than a Jag still.

On top of that, it has far more weight over the rear wheels. This Jag probably has under 50% on the rear wheels, whereas the Porsche must have over 60%. The Porsche is more roomy in the cabin though! The Jag was surprisingly smaller inside. Don't get me wrong though, I really don't want to start a Jag vs Porsche performance war. I'm an unbelievably massive Porsche fan - and only used an awesome car in comparison just to show how quick the Jag is. With 510bhp through the rear wheels, vs 450bhp split through four wheels, it's to be expected that the Jag is faster. Also, it's 6 years younger than the 996 TS!

Heading off again in it now, will take some photos so you can all enjoy a bit of eye candy! It's going to stay dirty as most PH'ers seem to like it this way hehe

AWD traction. I suspect from a roll the Jag would be quicker to accelerate.

I've always liked Jags.

I might try and wangle a test drive in one of these. Never thought they'd compare with 911s. Not in terms of power/peformance, but just because I'd imagined it was a bit like comparing apples with pears.

Hmmmm */searches for local Jag dealership*/

This surprised me very much...

Lardy tiptronic convertible, other 997 Turbo's have beat it. Still - an amazing achievement.

As with so many of these things, just how fast do you want to go in a Jag?

I think I'd rather have an XKR over an Aston. But not in white, and no adorned in stickers.
