Just spent time checking insurance quotes to try to help decide between one car and another for my next purchase.
Details in etc, quote for 3.2 2005 boxster, value 22k - 1300 quid pa, 3k excess. Sounds a bit daft excess I think, but the 600 quid excess range is asking 2k a year!
So I tried a 3.6 2003 carrera cab. Exactly the same quotes. Must be the soft top bit, I think.
Tried 3.6 2003 carrera coupe Strangely, all the quotes are the same again.
Tried putting in a garage. Exactly the same quotes.
Tried a 996 turbo, exactly the same quotes.
Tried valuing a GT2, valued at 60k, exactly the same quote.
WTF are these quotes based on? It can't be engine size, car value, wether it's garaged or not, wether it's a drop top, anything.
Been driving since 1999, never had a claim, always held insurance over this time - so i'm guessing it can't be me personally that's the issue?

I'd use all the search sites...gocompare, moneysupermarket etc. I received quotes from £150 -£1100 for my Lotus Elise.
Naturally, I will take the £150 one, knowing there is no way they will keep near this price at renewal - this price is to get me on the books, the £1100 one is a chancer, that maybe I am one of those people who believe I must be getting a better deal because it is so expensive.
It is all but a game.

who is that with?
Well, it looks like that excersise was a waste of time =(
All the comparison sites no help whatsoever, I'll ring flux tomorrow and get them to quote me for a few options, and go from there.
I still think it;s strange these sites are not reflecting what I have asked them to quote, I'm not miffed at the non-desirable quotes, it;s more that they don't change when the car changes, or the value changes, or wether it is garaged or not changes.
It's almost like the only universal constant is me as a driver, and third party risk. However, why would that be high, I've got 9 years no claims, ffs!

Endlsleigh were next best at £200. Both with £250 excess, fully comp. Can't complain.
- * ah yes, another thing, I probably have the only unmodified Elise in the country, even down to the orginal Pioneer cassette - insurers love unmodified cars ****

I've just had my renewal through from Adrian Flux - it's up a negligable amount (about 20 quid to the mid 500s for a group 50 5 litre V8) and they much better than anyone else. Not only that it's a policy with a "quality" underwriter (not "Aggamemnon at Lloyds" or somesuch), no daft conditions, unlimited mileage etc. Oh and a PH discount
(the young lady on the phone was referring to an "owners club" - I assume this must be PH which I got a discount for last year).
