I have come across an unusual number of brand new vehicles where the tails lights don't work and yet the headlights (proper dipped) are on. The odd one or two over the last month and then two tonight. Is there some new light configuration that I don't know about?!

Indeed they are. More and more common these days and the VW ones do look like dipped lights. At least the LED ones are obviously DRLs.

I've got the DRL's on my Merc switched off.

They annoy me.

Peugeot Avis car I had last week had them, used the dipped headlight beam. I just don't understand the need for them especially in bright sunshine.

Surprised not to have seen the bright LED ones appear on motorbikes yet, surely a good thing if it means being more noticable.

I know this is like, crazy, but.... we just switch the dipped beams on with this, like, little switch on the handlebars.

I know, nuts! wobble

They seem to have appeared on every max power abortion down my way already.

However, I do agree. The one place they would serve a very much constructive purpose would be on motorbikes.

Several bikes on the market have had them for a few years now. Now, with cars running DRLs as well, motorcycles won't stand out as much again.....well done EU, clappety clap. rolleyes

AFAIA The DRL's or dipped beam on new bikes don't have the option of being able to turn them off. I have turned them off on my car even though I think the Angel Eyes look better than the LED's

All mopeds have to have dipped lights on at all times from 2004.

I presume this is the same for motorbikes

yeah mine does that, it's a 2006 bike. doesn't even have an offswitch for the bike lights. just dipped or full.

Correct, on/off switches for lights disappeared from bikes that year.
